Miataland! I know where I’m planning my next vacation....

I was just in northern Italy a few weeks ago... wish I knew about this then! I would 100% do this rather than a trip to Maranello.

ehh, I can brows craigslist and see most of that. A MonsterMiata? from like '98, really? but i suffer from narcissism.

Schroedinger 07-09-2019 10:43 AM

But can you drive them around the countryside in northern Italy?

DaWaN 07-09-2019 03:27 PM

I was actually thinking of driving my MX-5 to Italy in the next two months, this looks like the ultimate destination for it. Thanks for sharing, I will report back after the visit :)

I actually got this information in the Dodge Viper chat I'm in.

I seem to get better Miata related info there than I do in other chats.

Maranello is nice; we all have Miatas but I assume only a handful own Ferraris. TBH Italy is a nice place to visit for petrolheads; lots of automotive museums, and the Lamborghini, Pagani, Ducati and Abarth factories are open for a (scheduled and guided) tour as well (or at least were 5 years ago). And then you can move towards the north for some amazing roads. That being said, Miataland looks amazing and is definitely on my list too!

I guess I'm just not interested in looking at miatas. But the factories, that sounds very interesting. I like learning how things come together.

Also, this is why I am not a marketing consultant. I just dont connect with what people want or like. I'm weird. When someone finds out I have a turbo car, and they want to talk turbo, I can't get away fast enough.

I drove to Miataland from the Netherlands last week in my MX-5.

Miataland is awesome and everybody who is thinking of going there should totally do it!

First I drove over the Stelvio pass to Italy:

Next, we visited Andrea's collection:

Absolutely insane collection. I really loved to see a Mazdaspeed Miata in real life. But also all the rare JDM models were really nice. I sat in an original NA JDM Mazdaspeed RS model with the unique Recaros and absolutely loved it.

We were also able to drive the 30th Anniversary for a day.
This was also really nice. The ND feels great: it feels much closer to the NA / NB than I thought it ever would. The 184 hp engine is a peach, keeps pulling even above 7000 rpm. The Brembo brakes were also impressive.
I also liked the way the stock ND rotates, I guess it has some dynamic toe making the car rotate. It was really fun to drive around, much more lively compared to my NB 1.8 (w/ torsen).
The ND is also a much nicer and more practical car, I really loved the simplicity of the roof. I will keep saving for one, but for now it was more an eye opener how much fun a little more power is.
So this gives me motivation to finish my turbo NB!

The resort is also really nice. The pool has a great view and the rooms are very big. The price is also great for what is on offer.
Andrea also has a big collection of books and steering wheels in the resort. In the evening we were back early. I found a book reminding me of my Formula Student time. I showed it to Andrea and we talked for a long time, the guy is truly passionate about cars and Miatas in general. Andrea was also nice enough to serve us a beer also.

Overall: awesome experience and I am already thinking of driving there again next year. I should go there with the turbo NB!

Schroedinger 08-27-2019 07:25 PM

Awesome to have a first-hand report, thanks. I go to Milan once or twice a year for work, I may go out of my way next time and spend a weekend there.

Damn, the wife and I were actually in San Marino for MotoGP two years ago. Had no idea this existed or I would've stayed there
