More videos from RMcElwee...

As some of you know, I just purchased a new digital camcorder. Of course, this means I will be taking an endless stream of videos while I play with my new toy. Here are a few - enjoy:

o my god im glad that is not the autocross course i go to. That was hella short. At mine I got to the middle of third and my best time was 60's. However its $35 each week. nice video, just seemed like the smallest autox course i had everseen.

You take what you can get here. Your lucky you have good places to race. Our local club has a hell of a time even finding places to run, let alone finding BIG places.

Racer46 03-19-2007 08:29 AM

I'm used to short courses, they're about all the local clubs can find around here. Did your club find a cone manufacturer that was going out of business? Jeez that's alot of cones! I do like the green pointers though.

We just bought some new cones so I suppose they were testing them out. There were some light posts in there (a car almost slid into one) so I think they used a lot for safety reasons. You had to enter, exit right beside the course so they set lanes up with cones with that as well.

BTW, that really isn't a short course. In reality, it is about 2 miles long but I drive so damn fast that it just seems like it was short!

:BSmeter:

Braineack 03-19-2007 08:59 AM

Really, you think that's short. Try finding a lot in StickUpTheAssVille.

akaryrye 03-19-2007 10:57 AM

I know that i am very lucky to use the venue i have. many people I have talked to say it is *the* best venue in America and now i realize why. Im very sorry if i sounded like an ass, didnt mean to be rude.

steelrat 03-19-2007 11:21 AM

Yeah, we unfortunately get "shorter" courses here until the local club that I run with finnally got a slightly larger lot. But our course are usually a lot tighter than that though, with loops occacionally in the back lot......

Ah..... where's the spring, where's the spring.... it's been snowing some more this morning......

Dave,

we all know you still are ;)

I was pretty spoiled actually. I started autoxing in Richmond at VMP, which is a 1/4 drag track. The lot was as long as the track and plenty wide. Then they also started using Cloverleaf mall, which only had a food court left open on the weekends it was so ghetto and run down. but the lot was great, we acutally used three parking sections, pleny of times in the 2min range. Then they lost that lot cause sears bought it property or something and the started just using RIR, which wasn't as big, but plently big.

Now that I do it in NOVA, there is only a few lots in VA that people can acutally use, but SCCA usually gets the pick of the litter, then the little clubs get crap. Right now I autox in two High School Parking lots. The one being about the size of a Mcdonalds lot.

magnamx-5 03-19-2007 11:31 AM

looks about like my last autox course but with alot more cones i mightg not have gotten lost on that one.

tabs604 03-19-2007 02:08 PM

Braineack 03-19-2007 02:12 PM

sounds exactly like my greddy type s.

Dave,

Amen to that! we're expecting -16--25F again tonight. And more snow!!

Our AX lot is pretty small (~40sec), and it's an hour and half drive just to get there... But we are all just greatful to drive on pavement :)

Ah, a BOV expert! Yes, it is a greddy type-s!

SloS13 03-19-2007 04:23 PM

I've only autoxed a couple times (non in the miata...yet) but this one was by far my favorite. Long and fast.

Yeah I spun out once.

I am thankful that they always mark our courses for us. I would get lost for sure without lines on the road.

That is first time that I've watched an in car auto-x video and was able to follow the course. The extra cones and pointers are awesome. Looks like a good time, even if it was short. I'm sure it felt longer than 30 seconds when running it.

I don't know how you guys run through all those cones normally, they're so spaced out. I think I'd get lost and run stuff over.

SloS13 03-19-2007 04:51 PM

Once you walk the course, you've got a good idea on where to go. Once you actually run the course once or twice you'll remember it for months. It's crazy like that.

magnamx-5 03-19-2007 07:28 PM

nah all courses should be marked like that. As a rule of fact.

cjernigan 03-19-2007 07:36 PM

Nice, sweet video of the pump pulses and that greddy BOV is loud as hell. My tial won't blow off when sitting still like yours will. Must have a pretty heavy spring in it. That really is a ton of cones. I might be going to my first autocross this weekend, i'm stoked.

TwoScoopsofHooah 03-19-2007 07:58 PM

I wish my connection was fast enuff to view your video......man I miss autocross..most fun you can have in your car with your clothes on:D

magnamx-5 03-19-2007 08:04 PM

who says you need to wear clothes to autoX :gay:

TwoScoopsofHooah 03-19-2007 08:31 PM

Ummm....well I guess no one:dancegay:

Mymiataflys 03-19-2007 10:32 PM

What no power oversteer ????

turbopezz 03-19-2007 10:43 PM

Uh NO, I walked the course 4 times and still didn't know where the hell to go. Of course, my short term memory is ... uh, what was I saying...

The greddy is one with dual vac ports. I'm not smart enough to explain it, but if I pull one of the vac sources off the BOV is pretty tame. Personally, I like it loud and nasty!

It was nice seeing you and your car out there!! Was your fastest lap time the one in the video? How did the wifey do??

edit: I just saw they posted the results. I also found out I should be in YOUR class (XP) because of the TSIs. :P

TwoScoopsofHooah 03-20-2007 03:38 AM

here is a pointer....I learned this from a guy named charlie(80+ year old autocrosser) take a note pad with ya...and in words(not a map) write out the course. Charlie walks the course once but during the drivers meeting and such he goes over it...he's damn good! and its helped me also....(my short term memory= the suck too)....

Really? TSIs? I had no idea. I moved to my class because I didn't meet the weight requirements of SM2. When I did, I had to add a rollbar (required for XP). I wasn't too happy about that at first but it makes for a good camera mount <G>. Anyway, come on over to XP! It is lonely over here...

I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Actually the top port is a boost/vac line, the bottom should be a boost-only source. Using the bottom line helps out the response on the Type S's immensely and makes the sound much more.....sudden I guess is the best way to describe it.
