Most expensive tune up ever?

Well, probably not of all time, but certainly the most I've had to spend.

Plug wires:
$536.76, set
Distributor cap:
$209.30 ea, 2 required
Rotor button:
$81.60 ea, 2 required

I highly recommend NOT purchasing an 8 cylinder MB. :td:

Of course, it *is* fun to take a Camaro/Mustang/Etc from a roll in a 5000 lb sedan and still get 24+ mpg.

kotomile 03-24-2007 08:10 PM

 :td:

turbopezz 03-24-2007 08:33 PM

S500?

Ben 03-24-2007 08:41 PM

No, an E Class, but with essentially the same drivetrain. Motor (32 valve, overhead cam V8 with variable length intake runners & variable cam timing), tranny, and electronics are all the same.

If you think that is expensive, try paying for a tune-up for a Ferrari.

magnamx-5 03-24-2007 10:51 PM

3K dollar oil change FTL yeah gotta love Ferrari.

Ben 03-24-2007 10:54 PM

Ben 03-24-2007 11:07 PM

Really? Thanks....
Do you work at an MB dealer?

I'll PM you the VIN

Ben 03-24-2007 11:22 PM

Just found a Bosch wire set for $189 shipped on ebay.

Still outrageous, but much better. :-/

kung fu jesus 03-25-2007 01:40 AM

look up the oil change on a porsche boxster. it's nuts. not ferrari-bad, but still bad.

yes, i work at a dealer. I'll get you prices on all that stuff monday morning. hold off on the aftermarket parts for now, mb parts are insanely specialized(up to/after vin, production date, codes and options) which is why i need your vin. the aftermarket tries to make exact match parts but a lot of times don't get it right.

Ben 03-25-2007 09:36 AM

Yeah I don't do aftermarket on that car, but I don't think there is any aftermarket for it...

It's my understanding that Bosch and Beru are the OE manufacturers of MB plug wires, and Bosch makes the distributor caps and rotors.

thats nothing, I've been punked for major dough, 1200.00 for Replacing 2 rotors, brake pads and a supposed special addition caliper ....stupid mistake 1, going back to the trusted mechanic for my clutch mistake number 2 , 800.00, supposedly he had to charge extra for having to remove the custom exhaust system.....This for a miata....I know Im retarded, but thats what I get for being nieve

Damn man, that is the cost of a decent DIY turbo kit right there.

RicanmiataRacer 03-25-2007 08:49 PM

I guess it was deserved for being retarded, I wish I saw it comming but I didnt :(

hustler 03-25-2007 09:33 PM

the end that goes into the spark plug is funky. don't know where to get it from. the other side that goes into the distributor cap is standard.

best price I found for OEM wires was $189 shipped off of ebay.

Ben 03-29-2007 05:11 PM

Well, I got all the tune up parts in.

Car runs much better (it had an intermittent miss on the drivers' side middle 2 cylinders due to a bad cap). Idle is glass smooth again, you can't even hear or feel it running. And it pulls like a 747 on takeoff when you put your foot down.

Still has a hesitation when it comes to operating temp, just after idle. The hesitation does not occur when cold. It only occurs in one spot, about 1200 rpm or so, and never again.

Any theories?
