I've seen people crack them open and add a good length of wire between the unit and the actual sensor and mount the sensor in the mouth of the front bumper, that way you can put the unit wherever you want and permanently mount it.
had this idea and keep trying to search for one already made like that but just dont know what it would be called. is that something thats mildly idiot proof that someone whose more mechanically inclined than electronically inclined could figure out?
