Ready player one was surprisingly bad. I really only went for the references and that is the only department it did not disappoint in.

I saw Tomb Raider, by myself, and was not disappointed. It's a good movie. Better than any of the Anjelina Jolie adaptations for sure. Removing the video game whatness entirely, it's still a good move. Adding it in, they did a good (great) job of keeping the mystical whatness of the game, while eliminating any mystical magickal fuckery from the universe of the movie itself. They did a great job of conveying Lara Croft as a powerful sensual woman yet did not resort to cheap tricks to overtly objectrify/sexualize her. Would watch again. And will, as soon as it comes to the second run theaters.

It would have been a good imax movie but I saw it on a normal screen. Still good.

If you are a gamer, and you have not played the Tomb Raider series, shame on you. The latest iterations are spectacular in their story lines and production values.

I went to see it with people who read the book and they said it was loosely based. A lot of plot points are either different or missing entirely.

Still mildly entertaining if you aren't expecting a perfect adaptation but even to me the plot seemed incomplete and rushed. Almost as if the book doesn't fit in a 2 hour movie.

no, the book could easily be split into 2 parts, maybe three.

Spoiler

The "Ready Player One" review is not consistent with most that I am hearing. Literally it's the only bad review among my group of friends.

It may be a good movie, it may be a bad movie. I haven't seen it yet. I think it's worth watching to find out for yourself, even if it's on redbox later down the line.

That book is fun the first time you rip through it...it does NOT hold up if you try to re-read it, nor is his second book worth reading.

I second the review of RPO only being ok. I read the book a few weeks ago which probably set me up to not enjoy the movie as much as I could have otherwise.

I liked Armada, but it wasn't nearly as good as RPO.

Nothing could be as disappointing as being a Clive Cussler fan, and then seeing Sahara...

That's good to hear, the previews I've seen made me not too interested in seeing it.

Same. I was expecting the usual sequels failure. But it was just like to first one with a few call backs to the original, funny jokes and Canadian accents.

Interstellar... Anyone? I've watched it more than I'd like to admit.

Rush? Bump up the sound system on the intro scene for good braaps

Series:

Westworld - since season 2 premiers this weekend.

Watched the new Wes Anderson movie Isle of Dogs last night. It was really really good. Still very weird, clever, and quirky like all Wes Anderson stuff, but dogs make it more approachable than usual. Not even in the same ballpark as Fantastic Mr. Fox, which I fell asleep during on every attempted watch.

Super Troopers 2 on 4/20, seemed like a no brainer, so I went to the movies for the first time in 3 years... and fell asleep halfway through. A dark room with a comfy recliner and there isn't a chance I'll make it through. The first half gets a thumbs up tho.
