Has anyone watched the second Kingsman movie? I'm tempted to watch it but sequels are rarely good and I don't want to taint my impression of the first movie by watching a sequel that blows lol

At the risk of alienating Americans from the USA, I was looking forward to this movie until I saw the preview.
The Kingsman movie was about an elite British secret service unit that played up on the British gentleman stereotype and was fun because of it.
Kingsman 2 looks like it's aimed at appeasing USA audiences with the new USA Kingsman characters they've added.
While I don't mind the villains being any particular nationality, the good guys in a Kingsman movie MUST be British!

ie. Would anyone accept a Chinese James Bond?

The Bourne series is a great example of what Hollywood SHOULD do if they want to do a James Bond movie with a USA actor.
ie. Keep the action but come up with a completely different scenario so that it stands on its own and doesn't look like a blatant rip-off.
FYI: The Bourne movies actually had an impact on James Bond movies, they realised that they needed to "lift their game" with regard to the action scenes.

I hate sequels that simply milk the success of the original movie and don't stand on their own, especially when they diverge from what made the original movie so good in the first place.

eg. Highlander = Frickin' awesome (if you've ever seen it in a cinema with awesome sound you'll rate it as one of the best movies ever)
Highlander 2 = Turkey of the highest order (shame on you Sean Connery for appearing in this steaming pile of ****)

It was not horrible. Was not the greatest. I would probably watch it again.

Wonder Woman...my wife likes these comic movies. This movie was weird to me as I don't favor fantasy type of movies, but the chick who played Wonder Woman was SO HOT, and I felt it followed a decent story line.

I don't mind fantasy impossible stuff, I just hate horrible movies with shitty actors, silly costumes, no plot, and holes in the story.

Here's how every super hero movie works:
1 hour of backstory that we already know
1/2 hour of "that escalated quickly"
fin.

the backstory of WW made me laugh out loud: the silly island and silly lesbians in that silly armor with the silly special effects.

now marvel is leasing "urban black Spider-Man" wearing his Jordan's. If you want black kids to watch your movie, cast a shitty comedian and dress him in drag. You don't need spray painted walls and characters wearing Jordans and Beats.

Blade Runner 2049 is the best big Hollywood movie I’ve seen in a while. I saw it in theaters 3 times and bought it the day it came available on amazon. As expected, it definitely isn’t as good on a small home screen. The cinematography and visual effects are by far the high points of the movie in my opinion, so screen quality is important. The plot/concept is good too, but the comments about it being slow moving are definitely accurate. A lot of scenes are intentionally slowed down to give you time to appreciate the visuals, which I didn’t mind at all. I didn’t think the movie felt slow on the big screen, but definitely noticed it at home where the visuals didn’t pop as much.

I also thought the cast was amazingly well-selected. I never thought I would care much for Ryan Gosling, but he was great. Joi/Ana de Armas was amazing too. Pretty much everyone was a perfect fit for their character except for Robin Wright, who I thought was terrible.

Others that I've watched recently and liked a lot:

Logan - I usually don't care for the comic book movies, but this one was really good.

Incendies - French with subtitles, but worth it. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049)

Looper

I liked the new blade runner too as well as Logan.

actually I went into BR with low expectations, as I couldn't make it through the original. But for a slow paced movie it was well done.

This movie has raked in US$890 million worldwide so far.

While I agree with the comment regarding "the lesbian island" start being too long, I thought is was a decent movie, the WWI scenes in the battlefield portrayed the trench warfare perfectly (total devastation in a mud-pit) and Gail Gadot was easy to accept in the role, despite being stunning, she pulled off the action scenes well - you gotta love a beautiful woman who can kick your ****.
For years casting a woman in this role was going to be hard, Lynda Carter set the bar incredibly high (my bar especially :P )

Apart from the 1st Christian Bale Batman movie, this has been the only DC movie so far that was worth the price of the ticket.

Watched this the other week. The trailer looked good, and it was a little emotional from a father/ daughter standpoint, but...I don't know. It's like Hollywood starts a story, gets half way, then screws it up cause they don't know how to end the movie. Like Clint Eastwood directed it from the start, got frustrated, then let Nicholas Cage finish it.

meh. it was meh at best. ive seen worse, but ill never watch it again.

worse:
Battle of the Sexes. turned it off quickly after it was apparent it was just a lesbian movie.
Valerian. I actually watched this through, my wife laughed at me.
The Circle. Slow, boring, goes no where, predictable.
Baby driver. All vroom vroom. terrible acting. gay child molester in it.
The Big Stick. interesting to see his story, but meh. he's a terrible actor.
Wick 2. disappointing
finding beasts and how to sex them. blahhhhhhh.

borderline:
guardians 2. writers phoned this one in.
get out. it was good for what it was.

better:
flatliners.
american made.
the founder.
passengers. i liked this one actually.
accountant.
war dogs.
rouge one.

That some French "fillum"?

Seriously though, I was amazed that Rogue One ended exactly how it SHOULD have ended - never thought a Disney movie would ever do that, especially since so many kids love Star Wars.

I keep reading this criticism, and it makes me wonder if the people saying it have ever seen the original anime.
Major doesn't look especially Japanese.
Actually most of the main cast are drawn to look white.

Wick 2 did suck. Usually sequels don't really top the first movie, however, Bad Boys 2 IMO was way better than the first one.

22 jump street was just as good as 21. Both of them were my kind of silly, childish humor.

Not sure why that was the first sequel that popped into my head...
