My 2 week old PS3 is dead...
 

I can't belive it, but it's true. I was playing Assasins Creed for about an hour, when the game just froze. I was pissed, but I figured with so much going on it was just a fluke. Restarted, SAME thing. I let it sit over night. Next day, SAME thing. I figured it was the game.

I tried my other games and they play ok but there is no sound. Then when I come up to a loading screen the game won't load, it just freezes. Now whenever I put in anything, cd, dvd or game it won't show up. On the main screen it just shows there is no game in the system. The demos I have on the HD work just fine, so I'm pretty sure the drive is broken. JUST like my first PS2.

I'm pretty pissed just because this is what happened with my PS2. Thankfully it is under warranty.

I think Loki killed two of them in a short period of time.

I couldn't even make it through the instructions. I felt the controls were too confusing so I just turned it off and went back to playing Rainbox Six Vegas (XBox 360).

because those are SOOOOO much more durable

I dont like the game play of ps2 or ps3 and 360 has alot of more games. I admit when 360 came out it had some glitches, but they held back ps3 too. But ps3 if fucking cheap now 360=$299.99 ps3=$399.99(Canadian), but i will always be an xbox fan/ halo:)

Buy a 20 dollar cooling thingy or pay the 450 bucks for a 360 elite, they run cooler. Cooler temps = less lockups.

It's just the drive is dead. Everything else works fine, it just doesn't read the disc. I'm so tired of hearing the 360 is better because it has more games, of course it does it's been out longer. Halo = :jerkit: At my school (A video game design school) I know of at least 4 dead 360's, so it's not like they are all that much better. The new consoles are just REALLY complicated, there are tons of parts that can fail.

Assasins Creed is awsome. It does take some getting used to, but once you figure it out it really isn't that bad.

of course stories of dead boxes are purely anecdotal here. you can't really extrapolate that 4 dead units among your friends means 40% fallout rate.

Which is exactly my point. It's not +1 for 360, they have had failures as well. I don't dislike 360 for it's hardware and I don't mean to insult it. It's just EVERY person who owns an Xbox that hears my PS3 has a problem they say I should have gotten a 360.

I guess it bothers me so much more because I deal with it at school ALL day. I was just posting to see if anyone else had problems with theirs yet.

I hear just the oposite from people who have PS3's. In fact, I didn't think they ever had problems based on what friends say.

FWIW, I have 4 XBox 360's. Two were purchased working, one was repaired (3RLOD), and one had a bad DVD. I fixed the one with the DVD problem and ended up working on the 3ROLD box several times. It has been running for a week this time and I am hoping it will keep on working. I have modified the cooling system of all 4 boxes to hopefully keep more problems from happening. These things definitely don't run right...

I have one of the original batches of the 360's with a Niko intercooler on it. I hav never seen the rings of death, or had any weird lockups. I guess i got one of the flukes of th bunch.

The intercoolers are known causes of PS deaths. Do some searching and determine if you want to leave yours attached (I have one but do not use it due to the problems). There ARE better ways to cool...

Its been on my 360 for well over a year, and my power supply is still fine. The main causes of death on 360's is poor ventilation, improper care, and way too much time on peoples hands. (hours and hours of play time, isn't good for any game system.) If the Niko intercoolers were proven to cause any problems, then why are they still on the market? Most of the time it could just be a coincidence that they have an intercooler on a failed system. After all Microsoft does have a really good return policy right now for a reason.

Yeah I know this is gonna sound weird, but mine's dead too. Died last night while folding. ITs a complete brick. Wont turn on, tried different power cords and different outlets. ITs dead (and yes i checked the main switch.) gonna go swap it out now.

yeah my system hasn't crashed yet, i've got a full 100 button plus controller, completely wireless design, attached lcd screen, free online mode, and more games then any other system combined..... why do people waste money on consoles instead of computers? the only thing i plan on intercooling is sitting in the driveway

cause its cheaper then a computer, i can play with 7 friends, and use it as a media extender. You run full 1900*1080 or whatever it is?

I never have to upgrade it and its guaranteed to work wit all its games. For $500 i can play games, surf the internet, and watch BluRay movies.

I'm not poopoo'ing your post because I have one too, but just because something was known to fuck shit up doesn't mean it will get pulled. Why do you think drugs and food products that cause nosebleeds, ulcers, diarrhea, ---- leakage, etc.,etc. are still in circulation? It's buyer beware on everything and all they have to do is issue a piece of paper in the product that printed in .010 font that warns the user that use of this product may fuck your shit up. Just one GLARING example that I've had experience with, the Anthrax Vaccine that the military used and probably still does use states clearly that it has not been tested for carcinogenic qualities or mutagenic qualities to reproductive systems. Pretty cool, huh?

Hey bro, it appears that this game has been causing some crashes, its a known problem. Maybe you can contact them and get a new ps3 or drive out of it? Bah, either way goodluck thats harsh.

It's interesting because the system was problem free until I started playing AC. I won't play it again until the patch comes out, I have some other good games.

I took the PS3 into Best Buy and they had me play it to show them the problem. It froze as usual and they replaced it with a new one, so I'm happy. The first guy I dealt with was a fucking idiot, I told him play it until a load screen so it will freeze. He would play for about a minute and said he saw nothing wrong.

As of yet consoles aren't targeted by viruses, and my last comp was destroyed by one. That and I just don't get along with computers. All games made for PS3 will work on it for years to come. My comp will need major upgrades monthly to keep up.

assassin's creed has frozen a few times for me as well, otherwise the PS3 is rock solid.

Yeah im on number 4, hopefully this is the one.

1) distorted lines through image (probably first gen/launch issues)
2) I think i destroyed it moving - freezing constantly loud fan noise
3) Power Supply Failure
4) Breaking it as we speak

Ouch. Best Buy said I was the 2nd person to bring it back. Not sure how much I can trust them, but I don't know why they would lie.

I'm just happy it's under warranty.

note to self.... buy 4 year extended warrant on consoles

note to self be glad you resold any ps3's you bought to buyers in Germany :D and didn't waste money on something as finicky as all that. I mean WTF where would we be if NES or super NES had problems like this hell even the grafix, atari consoles had better reliability from what i have seen. And don't tell me it is cause of the performance cause you are paying 500 or so $ for a system it should fucking work without the hassle of getting a new one replaced every month.

In a perfect world. In the real world everything has problems. You pay tens of thousands of dollars for cars, but they have warranty issues. You can't build a perfect product every time.

In a single word... Wii.

I have a Wii, and have not had a single problem with it. I purchased that one because it is the most innovative console yet i believe. As for the pc's, i'd rather spend a hundred dollars or two and keep upgrading video cards and keep getting better graphics and what not then wait 5-7 years for sony and microsoft to get off their asses and do something, that and i feel that by using the controller you greatly restrict gameplay vs using a keyboard and mouse

I think your allowed to use keyboard and mouse with PS3.

And the Wii isnt problem free. My brother is hanving problems with it, an because of that we got him his gift early (60 gig ps3, he cant wait to buy all the ps2 games he can get his hands on)

I've had one problem, but resetting the controllers to the console fixed it.
