my 3" exhaust
i feel a lil bad posting pics of my exhaust after seeing what some other people have hanging from their cars but I think Tim's work of art deserves some acknowledgment.
this is the only pic i have at the moment (from a cell phone) http://www.miatamx5.com/turbo_exhaust_01.jpg sorry suckers. |
Simple is sexy. Does tim have an inhouse mandrel bender, cause that would be soo badass if he did. I need a muffler personally. Though that looks very light. Do i see a cat and resonator in there?
Sound clip possibly? |
SICK, i bet that sounds pretty nice

Sound clip possibly? best i can do for sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAGEs4vmjGo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19JYTGw5xco |
Nice, sounds likea beast.
|
Sounds great. Looks good too. How did you bend 3" like that? It looks Great!
|
looks good, Im gonna run something very similiar
|
Thanks Paul :)
I do not have a mandrel bender, I just use J-bends cut with care. The block of wood in that picture is hiding a pretty tricky bend, and the ugly U-bolt clamp thing at the end of the pipe was just for support during fabbing, it's not there now. It is silly loud... |
maybe we can take some more/better pics when i have it back for the intake. coupler comes tomorrow.
|
Tim--you do good work dude. I wish we lived closer; I'd love an exhuast like that but with a Y where your 2nd to last bend is... oh, and some mufflers.
|
ive heard pauls exhaust plenty of times and i can hear him coming down the street. ive also been at autox's and known that he was there just by that awesome sound the exhaust makes. tim really did do a great job on it. tim does a lot of nice work.
|
badass sound, looks like you lose a lot of weight doing this set-up
very clean as well, nice work dudes |
Thanks everyone.
Paul, we are also still waiting on the tight radius 90. Not sure if we'll need it but I'd rather not start it and be forced to wait another day for it to arrive. It should be here any day now, I ordered it Monday of last week :( |
3" exhaust, more pics
|
I envy your suspension, and your exhaust + a muffler. Plus access to a lift, i've never had anything on one.
|
what about my rust?
and mileage? (currently like 230k) |
So are you saying your car is ragged out and you want to re-gift me your suspension and exhaust?
|
Here's your chance to redo that exhaust with a muffler Paul...haha
|
Does it make a difference if you support the car using the jack points or frame rails?
I ask because i plan to work with jackstands and would like to support he car at the correct points since it will be on them for a while. |
I've seen crushed frame rails on miatas. But I've never crushed a rail...I guess lifting the car on 4 points using flat lifting surfaces distributes the load well enough, plus the frame rails are a little thicker at the ends.
|
Ive crushed rails and jack points. I just the diff and subframe from now on.
|
you have to use the reinforced ends of the rails, otherwise, bye bye rails

no large image posted so i try not to lead this thread in another direction from the original topic |
tim, where do you guys get the tubing?
|
My shop! ;)
Actually we did use a tight radius 90 from ATP (I have an account with them now so I get their stuff for right around what WOT sells it for here, so I just get it directly from them to save him the hassle, time, and I have them to bitch to when they ship the wrong stuff which seems to be rare) and a Burns stainless transition. All other material I get thru my warehouse. EDIT: Replace all "my" with "my dad's". Thank you. |
really? you guys have a mandrel and a way to make DOM tubing?

I need to fix my exhaust. It sounds like a weedwacker at WOT. Nice work!

i use vibrant "j bends" purchased thru the store's warehouse, and tighter-radius 120's from atp, and smooth transitions in sizes besides 2.5-3 from Burns (2.5 to 3 I use vibrant) aluminum intake stuff: vibrant 90's, straights from a local metal supply company, I have a beader Manifolds: head flanges from ETD, weld-ells from mcmaster, turbo flanges from vibrant, turbonetics, or atp |
