my assessment on aftermarket miata suspension
 

I've been trying to find a spring a bit more stiff than the FM crap (which is too soft for track use). Apparently no one makes a spring, because they would rather see you spend money on thier overpriced coilovers.


H&R is probably the highest quality and most reliable spring, but they don't make anything stiff enough for sport driving.
Bilstein is the only company who revalves and modifies for a realistic price.
Bilstein is the only company who actually provides a product with any longevity.
Koni wants too much to revalve ($120 minimum, and they don't guarantee the work)
Tein stuff is supposedly rebuildable, but no one stocks the parts, and tein hasn't contacted me in a week.
FM charges $120 for 2 heim joins!!!!!
aftershocks is the only company I've called who will actually talk to me, and probably the best suspension company out there.
many people know very little about suspension.

I think I am going to make some coilovers from junkyard parts.

Are you looking to keep your current shocks? If so, why not just get the ground control sleeves? I've got koni's + GCs.... and I really like the setup, even with the 450/350 rates.....

Although, if I was starting over from scratch on a "fresh" car, I'd just go flex..... <G>

You can order any rate and size spring you want from Eibach and Ground Control (uses eibach springs).

H&Rs are progressive springs so as they compress the spring rates increase.

What are you looking to get out of your suspension?

I've had two bad experiences with eibach longevity. GC for some reason will not just sell me springs, since I already have perches.


I'm trying to find some used bilstein hd's, shorten them, and weld on some perches I have in my garage.

good luck getting them rebuilt. Although they advertise it, thier customer support is shit. They can't even tell me if they service them in the US or Japan.

Who did you talk to about getting the Koni's revalved?

Also, you don't have to go to GC to get ERSs, you can get them from tons of places in just about any spec.

I found a better way to do the springs from a local club, and I'd rather not do eibach. Most places I checked out wanted $100 per damper minimum. It seems that the bilsteins are serviced more frequently by more people, and they are almost the standard shock.
