My first autocross!

It was SO much fun. I have a few pictures and a video, I'm having trouble uploading the video. The fastest time of the day was 41 seconds, average was 45. I ran 4 laps, 57,54, 53 and 51 seconds. I don't think I did too bad for my first time out.
Attachment 216524 Attachment 216525 Attachment 216526 Attachment 216527 I tried changing the Koni's settings a bit, but nothing drastic. When I get the video up I want you guys to tell me what I should do. I was on street tires and I was ALL over the place, but I think it could be tamed with better springs and some practice. There were a bunch of other turbo Miatas out there, I don't know why I haven't met them before. And a big thanks to the Corvette club of Michigan for putting together an awsome show! |
seat time is what you need to improve. I am lucky here in houston we have autoX year round
did you enjoy working cones...lol. Fuck, I'll double the money just so I don't have to herd cones.
your lucky they put down chalk, my first and only time out they had none down, it sucked getting lost for sure.
Yeah corner work sucked, but it wasn't all that bad. I appreciate how important the corner work is. I got to see the cars up close, and they didn't hit all that many cones. I did get a nasty sunburn though. The chalk helped ALOT! CCM did a really nice job on the course and they were really good hosts. I'm DYING to go to another one!
looks like a lot i've run on before when i lived in michigan. that corvette club has less jackasses than some of the other clubs in that area.
It was the GM assembly plant just off of 94.
I would set your koni's at one position and leave them be until you've got enough seat time to be consistent... when you can make 3-4 runs all within a few tenths of each other then start dicking with the suspension. Until then there is no telling if it was the car or you that made the time.
That is good advice. The track was REALLY slick and I was advised to lower the ratio on the rear. It did help a little bit, but honestly I don't think it made any noticable difference.
I made up all the time by driving harder. My first run was HORRIBLE, and after that I just gave it hell. I really need to get more seat time, after watching my video I can see where I needed more throttle and other parts where I was running wide. It would also help if the track was warm or I had a wider tire (still on 195). I had an overall decent line, but it could be much tighter and controlled. The thing I need to work on most is the transition from braking to power. Seat time will help me, so hopefully next time I go they will have fun runs! Because it was mothers day they cancelled the fun runs. I need more time!!! |
Honestly when you are fucking about with your shocks, don't make small little changes since it'll be subtle and difficult to tell what's going on. Take a run with the front full soft and the rear full stiff. They do the opposite. For fun put them all on full stiff except one, simulates a blown shock.
Once you get a feel for what the car does with the shocks on different settings dialing the car in will be easier. |
nothing says fun like standing around for 8 hours for less than 3 minutes of "racing"
Drag racers spend a lot more time and money for a hell of a lot less seat time. Autocross is fun, lots of people don't have a track in their backyard they can go race on.

this is not a Csp car. What is your full list of mods. Is the airfilter an open air filter? Does it changed the path of air at all? If so that is what is causing you to be in CSP.
www.scca.com the look under solo the rules for the classes are there |

bad photo but here is my car
Attachment 216515 |
it's a cone filter without the box where the box would be
The style bar would put you into SP anyway. With out being an actual safety device, it would be considered a chassis stiffening device. :)
Any luck posting up videos yet?
Nope, my video is 110MB and the file hosting sites I use will only allow 100MB. What do I do? I'm not very computer savvy...
yea but every miata there had the same style bar and they made stock class... i figured out it was the cone filter.
