My first autocross video, beware of sucky filmography
 

My first autocross video was awesome and I'm definitely hooked so I'll be making every race I can. For the next one I plan to have a in car camera mount on the rollbar so I can actually see what i'm doing.

I improved my time substantially through the day and gave it hell on my last run. Got ballsy, hit four cones and understeered too much in both turnarounds. In the last turnaround I actually had to come to a stop to keep from going off course with a DNF, caught it in time, put it in first and went at it again quickly. Would have been 3 seconds faster if I hadn't sucked in the turnarounds and then came to a stop.

It was a blast though and I suggest anyone who has never done it go to a local autocross if they can. We're really fortunate to have big wide open lots for a huge track compared to other's apparently.

I also got to watch sbrian race and he is one seriously fast individual, I need to beg him for a ridealong next time.

Yeah the g/f doesn't understand how to use it apparently. It was a small casio exilim so it isn't really designed to take awesome video to begin with.
This was at Nashville Superspeedway with the Tenessee Region SCCA. I might have had a 80 second lap time but a couple people ran 65-70s. They're nuts. I can just pray that one day I get they're skills.

most autocrosses around here seem to be between 40-55 seconds on an average run

God, most of ours are under 40...shit sucks. 60 second + runs are awesome...I've run one...

We run on an old airstrip. FTD runs often will be over 70s. Just more chance to fuck up a run :)

As I said in the other thread, It was good to finally meet you. Find me in one of the first runs at the next event if we are in the same run group and I'll take you for a spin. I try not to take riders on my last runs so I gan get a good time, but earlier in the day is no problem. My ES car might not accelerate that great, but you don't have to slow it down much for the turns. ;)

I love auto-x, I can't wait until our season starts. Looks like a giant course, I'm jealous.

Yeah it was good to meet you as well. I was also pointed to the build thread of Dan's RX7 and that thing is going to be mean. I'll definitely be in line for your 1st or 2nd run for a ride along. If I thought my friends 76second run was fast I can't imagine what your 68.7 would feel like. I'll bring my diaper.

On the topic of my own car, having never pushed it I had no idea how it would handle the auto-x course. It handled very well considering it has a tire friendly allignment and 100% stock suspension including open diff. I'm going to install my sway bars first just because I have them laying around so we'll see what that does for me. I'll see if I can test them locally before the next race. If I don't get time to do that i'll just leave it the way it is until I can afford some serious suspension. Then i'll be talking to the fellow in Murfreesboro or Smyrna (can't remember which) that does the awesome allignments.
The RT-615s are also a great tire, i'm really happy with their performance on the street in all weather as well as yesterday during the autox.

For the 10 seconds I saw of the run it looked like fun! Looks like a super huge lot! I have a place in mind around me for autocross. I wonder how much work is involved to set something up.....

you'll get faster, ridealongs are a big help

Yeah we are lucky here in houston. We usually have 12 events a year, and we have an open space. Our course yesterday was around 51 seconds for FTD, my car pulled a 55.xx with my co driver and about 1 sec slower with me. 60 sec course are not strange for us either.

I've only done two so far, but on my first time, I achieved the best time when I had an instructor telling me when to go, and when to stop.

Wow that BOV, type S or RS correct? Pretty loud.

Congratulations. I'm signed up for the Novice autocross here at the end of April. I'm really looking forward to it. I already have too many summer activities, so what is one more.

Smart move - that's what I did. Had a national level miata driver in my region, so I used to pay for his "fun runs" while I rode along. He got to "tune" his car and driving, while I got to take notes. And if he didn't want to drive his car, I'd put him in mine. It made a HUGE difference in my driving. :bigtu:

Yeah that BOV is loud but it isn't my BOV making that noise. Watch the video one more time and you will notice it is blowing off while i'm sitting there. Its something like the S or RS, its in a RHD silvia that had no traction.

My tial sounds nothing like that it's more like a whip cracking than a whistle chirp.

Ahhh ok. Yeah I know what a Tial sounds like. I like the Tial more.

Matt's car looks like fun, i love the orange wheels. One day, when i'm all grown up out of my novice standing and have some clue of what i'm doing maybe i'll get some v710s or similar on some autox dedicated wheels.
For now, i'm going to work on the driver. Its too much fun for me to get real deep into messing with alignments and things of that nature. I'll work with tire pressure some, though didn't add or let any out from what I run on the street with the RT615s and they're wearing about perfect, hardly any roll.
If anything I might do the m2cupcar trick of doing one full turn on one tierod to get a little more turn in. I have a feeling my toe settings are a little toe'd in for the street. I'm to cheap to pay for an alignment right now. Need to go read up on DIY alignments with string boxes, rulers, and bubble levels.

Yeah Dan's RX-7 is going to be pretty mean. I will probably co-drive with him some once we get it complete. Jerry Onks is probably who you will want to do your alignment, he and Dan and 1 other guy own a shop in Smyrna and have all the alignment and tire mounting equipment. There is also a Dynojet there. :)

Stay on the street tires for now, you will learn more about car control. R compounds can cover up mistakes. I ran azenis for my first year and switched to R compounds for the second year. A little toe out in the front will make for a quicker turn in if you want to try that.
