My first drive at 200 WHP

Since my fiasco with the SC 92, I went to our local auto x today to see if there is anything for sale. Found that a 97 with a FMII kit was just hitting the market. Went over to see/drive it tonight. Ended up being a little rougher than I want body/interior wise but it was FUN! It was set up originally to run 16 psi on 104 octane. Did 240 WHP then. Current owner has it dialed back to 12 psi on 93. I'm guessing 200 WHP. Built bottom end with Wiesco 9:1's and forged rods. What a hoot! Kick it sideways anytime in 2nd, unless straight ahead on concrete. This is why everyone says "drive 200 WHP before you say you need more". What a gas. I now know I would be more than happy with 200 WHP. Heck, you can't use more than that on street tires anyway. He only had 215 Goodyear F1's on it, so maybe something stickier would hanlde it better. Still a good time. That said, I did call the 92 SC guy to up my offer to $7,500. That car is so clean, with HT and new Robbins glass top, I think I can get it to 170 WHP without too much trouble. It would still be enough to get me in hot water.

$7500 for a 92?!?!?!? I don't care if it has a $1200 s/c kit.... that's a astronomical price for a 92. And you're saying that you offered $7500? What was the original asking price? It's more like a $5000-6000 (6k if it has really low miles and is like-new clean). Also, im finding it odd that the owner of the other car was using 104oct. to run 16psi on a "built" motor. Hell, the car should be able to run 16psi all day long on pump gas. Using such a high oct. seems to be a sign of someone who is afriad to blow something up...as in a stock motor. Heck im running 11psi on a stock 10:1 compression 2002 Miata on pump gas. I'd just list that car as "buyer beware" unless he can prove the motors worth.... via receipts or something.

On topic.... the car at 12psi can make several different rwhp numbers depending on the turbo used. Turbo sizing can make the difference between 190rwhp and 250rwhp. Good luck on your quest for the right car for you!

Until you drive it at 200 rwhp for awhile.. then you realize you need 250.. then 300.. etc. Boost bug FTW.

weaksauce. My 1.6L hit 230rwhp with 13psi on 93 octane @ 6k no less. :noob:

Are you bragging about your tune, or doggin the guy who could only make 240 out of 16 psi on a built motor and 104 octane? ;)

both.

+1 on the price being too high, I would also be very skeptical.

:werd: I am not happy with "270" rwhp. But I do remember ~150rwhp from my first GReddy 1.6/6psi/no intercooler setup felt fast at first.

EDIT: Uhhh yeah $7500 for a 92 isn't good. I'd sell mine for around that.

<--- 246rwhp at 8.99psi

and it's slow as shit

Holy post-whorage batman!

I thought my car was at or around 200whp, until I got a ride in Arkmage's car at 214whp. Jesus!

I have now lowered my estimate to 170whp and think my stock exhaust is what is holding me back.

This. My car just doesn't thrill me like it used to.

That will change soon...
