I think that class would work. The guy I've been coaching/codriving with just moved to ITA, but has been saying all along he wants his car to have a LOT of power. Any track with long wide straights makes for a boring journey in an NA miata.

He is looking to do 40 of them. FMII Hydra Setup. They are SM cars except for the FMII kit and 350 rear springs. Not the best setup for that kind of power, but he wanted to keep it as close as possible to SM rules.

well to make it work, they can't cripple the car with SM rules that won't make sense for a higher power car.

I don't think it makes any difference what they do for the car after adding the turbo. The purpose/point is the same- drive the package quicker than anybody else. I raced showroom stock in 91 Miata for years - and I mean stock, even a catalytic converter. Car felt like it was going to tip over in the turns and drag the nose under braking AND it was still an absolute blast.

SM looks like a smash up derby as it is now ... imagine what it would be like with 2X the HP?

I'm not in the know. Is that Spec Miata Turbo? Cause i've never heard of it.

I'm assuming "yes"...? I wonder how exactly they're running "close to 300hp" on these cars and keeping them together for the duration of race (which is at least 25 minutes long). Is it lots of money invested... ?

I think the SM crash reputation comes from being highly subscribed too. That popularity draws noobs and guys who want to (and think they can at any cost) win. When the competition is that tight, you have six car battles instead two car battles. Add to that SM usually runs with some other (slower) classes, and you have a high risk recipe.

SMT? 300hp? Santioned? Must be a local thing.

I always thought SM's were set up well for more power. Stiffer suspension, lsd's, full cage, light weight, better cooling, what about all that isn't good for more power? It'd be impossible to run a real spec class though. How can you run a spec class with FI cars? It's too easy to cheat!

Cheap SM car with an intercooled greddy kit would make for a fun, safe, reliable HPDE car.

it'd have to be in the rule book that you need to switch out the diff for an rx-7 unit.

imagine the hilarity when an entire field of "SM-T" cars creates metal salads all at once.
