I'm glad there are speed limits....ever seen people drive around here?
yeah i said it.
what I don't like is the 30mph zone I near on because there are a few driveway that connect to it. I also don't like 55mph highways, or the people who merge onto them at 20mph.

problem is people are not responsible enough not to have speed limits. I'm always amazed by people driving 80mph in a 50mph zone in the pouring rain, and I see that kind of stuff all the time. I hate speed traps, not speed limits. I don't mind speed limits for safety but I hate getting a ticket so the local police headquarters can get paid even more ridiculous overtime.

I agree with the need for speed limits. Speeding on the expressway (if not unreasonable) is one thing. Hell, 55 is being a moving roadblock most of the time. On residential side streets, I'm a nanny, too.
I live on a dead-end residential street, and there are lots of kids running around, including mine. Yeah, you try to make them stop and look each time, but they're young, and they forget. It only takes once to kill someone. There was one guy at the end (driving a Buick) that would zoom down the street (40MPH and above) at any hour. Not in my neighboorhood, bub. Several of us called the cops, and he finally got nabbed. He slows down when he sees anyone, but I still hear him go by at night like he's late for a wedding.

In NC, I have even seen cops pass people on the right side. It is as if the "left lane is passing lane" rules doesn't even exist.
Here, we use the high beam and horn to move slow people out of the left lane and Darwin to get rid of the people that change lanes without checking their mirrors first.
People drive r-e-a-l-l-y well in this country though. Better then in any other, IMO. The people screwing up on the autobahn are usually turists passing thru.

BTW! A little thread drift, but a fun thing I have to tell you guys: We have a new joke in the department. Please do not take this the wrong way, but it is called “screaming like an American”. A colleague and I were driving from Nürnberg to Milan, with a visitor from the US factory with us in the car. Going south towards Switzerland the road was clear, weather was fine and I opened up the taps on the company Audi. Our American friend was sleeping in the passenger sear, but woke up from the noise of doing an indicated 250km/h. He then screamed. Since then, the engineers in my team always starts to scream like little girls as soon as we are in a car going over 150km/h.

Boy, I sure am glad I don't live where any of those m.net'ers live.
Last time I checked, non-wreckless speeding was a violation/infraction, which is non-criminal...that's why they are called "moving violations". You get a fine, but no incarceration or loss of liberty. It's also why you aren't read your rights when you get a speeding ticket.
I'd hate to get a misdemeanor because I was going 15 mph over the limit.
