Default My predicament.

So here is somehting I figured a few of you here could help me with, seeing as alot of you are engineers.

First off im going to major in mechanical engineering

So I applyed to u of pitt and temple (amoung others) for college. I got into temple but not pitt, and I decided what the hell, put me on pitts waiting list. So I paid my deposit to temple, ready to go, and I thought thats that. The other day I get a call from pitt and it seems that somehow I got in lol!

So now what? Is it worth it to go to pitt because of the much bigger name it has? Will that result in more job oppertuinties? I liked both temple and pitt, they each have their advantages... but im stuck

A degree in mech eng will give a decent job opportunities from either assuming your grades are decent. I'd say the best way to open doors for job opportunities is to get a coop or internship while in school. See which school has a better coop program for mech eng.

Job opportunities are based on more then just the name of the school you attend. I interned while I was in school and I started working full time salary while I was a senior. Why? Because there was a shitload of need for IT security in the DC area. Now, if I had attended the best IT school in bumfuck, PA... I would not have had that opportunity.

I would say go to the school that has the best known name in the area you wish to live in after you graduate. If you tried to throw around the names "Temple" and "Pitt" out here in San Diego, people would say WTF, who cares! Newbsauce has a good point too regarding availability of work. I was able to work part time internships all through college because there were actual companies close to where I went to school.

pick the school that looks the most fun IN THE DEGREE PROGRAM you want (not parties).

That's why I went to cal poly slo. we built bicycles and subwoofers and had welding classes with girls with short skirts in them and a beach near by and all sorts of badass things going on.

but if I went to Berkeley, I'd have been in lectures with 300 people learning how to derive fluid dynamics equations by heart.

the choice is yours.

In the end it will be "Who you know" more than "What you know".

I would choose the school that will provide more doors to open, and I would think that would be Pitt.

Alright im pretty sure imma go with pitt. They have more funding, nicer labs, their english class is engineering based (pretty cool), and the campus is very nice. Mach, thats all I needed to hear! THanks guys, wish me luck haha.

pitt's just a much nicer place to be in terms of enviroment, people, and if you do get some free time killer parties, hotter girls....i didn't really enjoy myself at all when at temple.

When i was a pitt they offered single dorms in lothrop, i was worried that would be a bad choice at first and wanted to be in the towers, but it was SOOO much better having at least your own space, a personal sink, and girls were either upstairs or downstairs, they alternated guy/girls by floor.
