Need advice for a turbo buy.
 
I have a spot for a T28 coming off from a skyline GTR (supposely) RB25

turbine .48 ceramic
ar.42

Rebuilt and is good for a 3 month warranty

The guy ask 360$

Should I jump on this?

Often, the people selling these turbos mistake the t25 for a t28. Get the part number off the center section and I'll let you know ;)

considering the backing plate and compressor housing, id say it is a t28.


I'm surprised the turbine A/R is so low. considering it's a T2X housing, it's going to spool VERY fast and choke up VERY fast.

GT-R's didnt come with an RB25 I dont think.

IMHO even being rebuilt it's way the hell overpriced like....seriously.

r33 GTR skylines have a rb25 or rb26 depending on year
r32 GTR RB25
r34 have a RB26

it's a bit on the high side, see if you can reason with the guy and offer him an accaptable ammount.

No expert here, but I think that turbo shold be just fine for 200 whp, and it will get you there quickly.

The stock R33 turbo is 50 trim T3 with .42 a/r compressor and a 62 trim T25 with .48 a/r turbine. Sounds like it's a T28.

It'll be very efficient at 200whp. I'd say it's a perfect match for a 10-12psi/200-220whp goal... with the right DP and exhaust.

The good thing about the wastegate is that it bolts to the back of the compressor housing... meaning you can simply drill/tap new holes when you clock it. Also, don't forget you're going to need the 2 ATP adapters for the compressor housing... about $100 for both of those.
The studs I see are going to be too long for a Begi manifold... don't know about an FM manifold.

Food for thought. He's about $200 over the price of an equally capable T25 from an SR20det. If the fact that it's "rebuilt" and has a warranty brings you $200 worth of piece of mind, then go for it. You can find SR20det T25's in need of rebuilding for well under $100, and the GPOPSHOP rebuild kit is only $80. You get what you pay for... in this case, you're essentially getting a new turbo for half of a new turbo price. You could however do it yourself for half again as much. Your choice.

And you'll need the adapters either way... making it a $460+ piece of gear. For that money, I'd keep my eye out for a used GT2554r... they pop up in the Protege classifieds all the time.

T28s sell on ebay for 400... t25s you can get needing a build for 50 bucks or used for a little more. For your goals.. t25.

That turbo probably came off a Skyline GT-ST Type M (or something like that), a RWD Skyline. I have a friend that used to run one on his RB20 S13 240sx until he blew it up (coupler had a leak, over spun it smoking a WRX). The RB20 is a 6-cyl 2.0 liter, revs to 8300, just FYI. It made full boost around 3500rpm and only seemed to struggle a little up top (7K rpms+).

Anyways, if you decide not to go with it, could you PM me the seller's info? That would bolt right up to my friend's RB20 and he might be interesteed.

R32''s had rb26''s(in GTR form), RB25's came in some gt-s' and rb20s DO NOT rev to 8300, not stock atleast, those engines are junk.

For the rebuilt, it was made by a shop so I think it is balanced and all the thing that just a rebuild kit doesn't do.

As for the adapter, I'll do all myself we have a plasma cutter coupled with CPU so the flange won't be a problem and I'll do my own DP and manifold.

But I'll take in consideration that it's on the High side and I'll wait for a better deal. Anyway I'm not in a hurry I'll have to source a 1.8 diff swap kit in first. It's just that I'd like to have a turbo soon than later because I could fab my manifold and DP right now. What forum do you talk for the mazdaspeed protege turbo?

all GT-R's came with the RB26DETT, while the R32 GTS came with the RB20DET and the R33/R34 GTS came with the RB25DET
