Need to coat my garage floor.
 

The plan is to (in the next month or so) take a day and do a nice epoxy (or whatever) coat on the garage floor. I plan on taking everything out of the garage, using a concrete cleaner and get it nice and prepped... and then coat it.

I've been searching solutions but need recommendations. Who has done this, what did you do, and what would you recommend.

I'm thinking light grey with dark grey chips... anybody?

It's real easy. I got it from Home Depot 6 or 8 weeks ago. I went with gray, but they also had blue. The flakes are white and gray. Kits with the epoxy and flakes were $60/ea. I needed 3 kits for my large 2 car garage. I can't remember the manufacturer's name, but it was the only kit that Home Depot sold.

The only prep I did was pressure wash the concrete floor. I also had a small crack that I sealed. Then it's just mix the 2 stage epoxy and paint.

Chips make it harder to find dropped nuts,screws,washers and whatnots.
When I get ready to finish mine, it will be without the confetti chips.

get the expensive stuff, we've done our garage floor twice with cheap stuff and it doesn't hold up much more than a year. clean it with muriatic acid first

I was just reading about the acid cleaning. Based on what I've been reading, I think I'm going to need to spend about $300. I'm going by HD and Lowes this afternoon to see what they've got, but I think I'm going to go with a kit like this one: http://www.epoxy-coat.com/
I'm going to use the chips sparingly. I'm feelin' ya on not being able to find small things that are dropped, but I also think that with some chippage, imperfections and stains that will happen over time will be hidden as well.

have used both and the rustoleum is top notch.

if i had a garage i would love to do this. it just makes it look soo much better and the cleanup is much easier.

do you guys have finished garages with drywall and all or just the usual?

Not to mention a nice looking garage makes you want to clean up better.

My dad used some "garage floor" paint, after pressure washing and muriatic acid... it lasted a good month before traffic from pulling cars in and out made the paint flake off.

Definitely stick with an epoxy, not paint.

That Rustoleum epoxy garage floor kit is AWESOME stuff, lasts a long time and is totally spill proof and such. I highly recommend it and its easy as hell to put on even if you've never done something like that before.

Looks like that's settled then. Now I just gotta pick my color... I mean my wife's gotta pic the color.

Is it common practice to mix in sand with it? This is to add traction to an otherwise very slippery surface (when wet).

Better traction = Dirtier garage floor = picks up all of the dirt and tire tracks along with real tough to clean - Unless you like to pressure wash your garage floor.

my god is that true! my friend has it in his garage the grey with black and white flakes, its nearly impossible to find smaller screws and washers.
