welcome to shitty paypal.

supra441979 08-02-2009 12:59 PM

They will try to recover the funds, but you are basically FUCKED for now. All they can do is put his account is the negative, but he has to pay for it for you to recover the money.

I guess you hunt down FRank Alcantara.

SKMetalworks 08-02-2009 01:34 PM

I sold a world of warcraft account for 500$ and then the buyer disputed me to get his money back; he won. About a year later i get an email saying they found him at fault and i got 500 smackers back in my account. Pretty sweet huh.

NA6C-Guy 08-02-2009 01:36 PM

Sounds like a fake name anyway. If he was in the same region as me I might track his ass down.

FRT_Fun 08-02-2009 01:40 PM

Yea at this point all you can do is wait.. or track him down and beat your 300$ out of him :D

BrokeEnthusiast 08-02-2009 01:44 PM

Haha, so if I wait it out the money will come back? Is there any sort of complaining that I can direct towards paypal by phone or email?

SKMetalworks 08-02-2009 01:46 PM

not necessarily. I was lucky. You can complain to them but they can lock your account for no reason.

FRT_Fun 08-02-2009 02:00 PM

Yea my account got locked.. and it sucked. I had like some 12 step process I had to go through to unlock it. BS!

Even if you wait you may never see your money again. :/

BrokeEnthusiast 08-02-2009 02:16 PM

How do they justify this as fair? There is no incentive for me to not go out there and say I have a bunch of stuff for sale. Then I just dont have to send the parts and withdraw the money so they cant get a refund. No repercussions at all...There are always scammers out there

ZX-Tex 08-02-2009 02:41 PM

I paid for something on ebay a couple of years ago through paypal. I think it was a car stereo for about $300 with shipping IIRC. The seller never shipped it, and never shipped on several other sales at the same time. I filed a dispute, and within a month or so I got my money refunded.

In my case though the seller may have had the funds in their account still. Sorry to hear about your situation.

BrokeEnthusiast 08-02-2009 02:45 PM

Well I called Paypal with no luck. They said that they put a hold on his account and will pay me when he has money back in there. I doubt I will ever see this money again. So in the future I will use a credit card but I guess I have learned yet another lesson. It's worth a higher price to buy something new from a reputable vendor than used from a private party. It has yet again shown me that people in this world are pieces of shit and cannot be trusted by their word.

I see what youre saying but if paypal withdrawls $300 from his account, and he decides he doesnt want to pay that then paypal is out the $300 instead of you.

ARTech 08-02-2009 03:59 PM

I always ask for a phone number and speak to the seller before sending any money. It is not a sure way of not getting scammed but I haven't been scammed by anyone I've talked to. A few never repled back with a # though.

Doesn't help your current situation but just for future reference...not all private online sellers are scammers

I bought something with paypal the other day and the guy said he wouldn't take a credit card via paypal for payment. This is because it is fairly easy to get a chargeback to your card if you get ripped off (or just want to get something for free). ALWAYS use a credit card with paypal and ALWAYS report it to the CC company as soon as the deal looks like it is going south. There is a time limit on all of that stuff...

I personally believe that should be their responsibility since they are being the medium. They are supposed to offer a service that claims a low risk transaction

Faeflora 08-03-2009 12:27 PM

USE A CREDIT CARD WITH PAYPAL. IF SOMEONE SCAMS YOU, YOU CAN SUCCESSFULLY DISPUTE IT ON YOUR CREDIT CARD. THAT'S WORKED FOR ME BEFORE. IF YOU USED BANK FUNDING YOU CAN TRY TO DISPUTE IT WITH YOUR BANK BUT YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE NO SUCCESS. BANKS AREN'T ON YOUR SIDE BUT THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY (IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE) WILL BE.

Sorry you got fucged :( BTW you were a little quick on the trigger with the dispute. A lot of people aren't scammers but are just slow to ship.
