Negative Camber - A new trend?
I've been seeing this all over town as of the last few months. Is this the latest thing kids are doing these days now that they've gotten bored with rusting out their body panels?
http://www.t-sele.com/customcar_wish3_big.jpg http://www.sexy-custom.com/exterior/photo/bb_02.jpg It seriously looks like they're riding on the inside sidewalls of their tires. They must be getting pulled over for this because it looks pretty unsafe. Seriously, wtf? |
|
its called the "fitment" trend.
I guess it's called that because they manipulate the tire stretch and camber in such a fashion that it almost fits under the fender. just another JDM/anime fad. ignore and continue on. |

This started right towards the end of the rust thing. Im ready for it to go, because a good chunk of these idiots are using wheels that would look good otherwise.
Edit: not sure how behind I am but I just noticed. <-- I am: Darren. |
This vid went around the forums a few months back.
|
As for the video, how does that car still have wheel bearings? How does it turn? I cant believe they're driving that thing at highway speeds. That seems crazy dangerous. |
Holy premature tire wear batman!!!:bowrofl:
|
premature tire wear? that shit STILL HAS LABELS ON
|
Well I haven't seen a lot of this but there's been a purple low rider in my neighborhood with slanty wheels for a couple years now. Its not too extreme and its somewhat tasteful so I never thought too much of it.

You must have been under a rock, this idiocy has been going on for a while now.
Hell, even back in the days of big body kits and whatnot there was this idea of "the more negative camber, the better". Although it has now been taken to a level of total absurdity. |
Stance
Hellaflush Demoncamber :jerkit: |
Nothing screams "performance!" like -15* camber and super skinny shitty all season tires. Clearly all such cars are driven by pansies who are afraid of actually driving a car.
|
I wouldn't exactly call this a new trend. Euro trash have been doing this for many years now.
|
Easy pal, I'm only at -2.5/-3:fawk:

There's a latest gen Civic Si around here like that. Can't even get his car into some of the parking lots because it's so flush and instead parks in the grass. Wheels are bright orange as well. Dude's ballin.
|
that looks so absurd...dont even know where to start. id like to know what on earth possesses someone to do that to a perfectly good car.
|
When clubroadster has a "dumb wheel fitment thread" you know it's going to be nuts: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=33982
This is what really got me: http://jasonsgrainofsalt.files.wordp...9/p1040285.jpg http://jasonsgrainofsalt.files.wordp.../09/1javqq.jpg http://jasonsgrainofsalt.files.wordp...09/30cu2op.jpg Apparently they are custom building their suspension, just for the purpose of having -30 degrees camber? These guys make the "I'm going to purposely rust my car out" guys look brilliant. |
They don't talk about MPG's, they talk about MPT's- Miles per tire. I'm thinking this guy gets like 10 maybe.
|
All that effort for negative gain. Why?
|
I pity their CV joints
|
I'd enjoy seeing a photo of the actual contact patch. Have the car drive onto a plexi cube or something and shoot from below. It can't be much more than a quarter.
|
I'd pay $50 to see somebody take one of those cars into an alignment shop, complaining about a slightly loose feeling on the highway.

I've been seeing this progressively get worse for years. Not a fan, at all.
