The neighbor's cat...

I've lived in my current neighborhood five years. It's a nice suburb, with big lots and not a lot of fences. It immediately borders farm land so we get a lot of wildlife, deer, turkeys, quail, rabbits, etc. For years the quail and rabbits chose my yard to have families, and I looked forward to seeing the little fluffy baby quail and rabbits in the spring. Then someone moved in one street up who had a big fluffy cat. She posted in the neighborhood group, "Expect to see my cat in your yard, he's friendly, don't worry about it," or words to that effect. That cat discovered almost immediately that my land was the happy hunting ground, and in one season destroyed all the small local wildlife. It pulled down a nest full of quail eggs trying to get to the parent. Killed baby rabbits right in front of my house.

I really like cats. I've posted pictures on this forum of my old boy Fritz. But I am contemplating feline murder, and if I wasn't worried about legal consequences, would have already carried it out. I've chased this cat out of my yard more times than I can count. I've tried have-a-heart traps, and they were ignored. This cat kills and kills and kills and all the wildlife has moved somewhere else. I don't blame the cat, it's just doing what comes naturally. Normally I'd go talk to the owner, but she is a very odd drama factory, who, I kid you not, staged racist vandalism at her house last year for internet clout. I don't need that person in my life in any way.

Any of those motion-detector sprinkler things are just as bad for the little wildlife as the cat. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to drive this cat away?

I do, but unfortunately I also have a business and a need for sleep, which means I cannot stand guard on my front lawn 24 hours a day with ye olde garden hose.

Cat just needs a better home.
One that keeps it inside or has enough land/outbuildings to keep it occupied.
Help the kitty out (out of your neighborhood) by finding it another home...
This will not help if Kitty is microchipped but worth a try anyways.
Kitty will probably thank you!

Lots of farmers/ranchers will take feral cats that will not tolerate humans for rodent control.
One that will tolerate humans should be easy to place.

Need to catch a cat...
Put that hav-a-heart trap inside a cardboard box.
Make it dark and inviting.
If baiting it with food doesn't work try catnip...

That's next level :D

I think after 5-6 times with the hose, kitty is just too pissed to come back and get another shower again and again...

Where do you live? I need something to deal with all the stupid rabbits, squirrels, racoons, mice, possums and other pests that roam my property causing havoc. These lazy ass outdoor cats i have don't do a damn thing.

Also, i have a motion activated sprinkler just to get rid of the above mentioned pests from my gardens. Works great.

Edit* i have two of these.
One broke, so they sent me two for free... They work great on everything including the mailman. Should work for the cat.

I agree about the better home, my plan if I could trap it was to drive it to one of the many farms in the area, maybe 30-40 minutes away, and let it out where it can hunt mice in a barn for the rest of its days. Good idea about putting the trap in a box, I will give that a try.

RE: the motion detector sprinklers, from my original post,
