Traded my Daytona today for a new 2012 Tiger 800XC. It's orange with ABS. I'll pick it up either next week or next weekend.

I loved the Daytona and enjoyed track days but now that I will have one, eventually two tack-worthy cars I'm still going to be covered on that front. So as a result it was a one or two day per month bike. I think I put 150 miles on it last year. This will see more miles, plus it is more in line with living on a gravel road.

Barged? I 100% expect a ramp built on the main land and him jumping the bike over to the island. Anything less is just not acceptable. If need be he should add a megasquirt and turbo to the bike to make sure he clears the water.

Awesome. I still love a good Triple, and the Tiger is everything a VStrom (great bike) wishes it could be.

Hopefully I can keep from modding it. It is an 800cc triple but shares the head with the 675 but longer stroke gets the cc's up. The bike is de-rated to 94 bhp to meet a new EU spec that caps them at 95bhp for insurance/tax reasons.

One of the early owners has already replaced the intake cam with a 675 Street Triple R cam, exhaust and tune and saw a 17 whp increase on the dyno with no loss of low end grunt.

Wow.

When you think about it, my Daytona has 126 bhp, so with an additional 20% displacement they should be able to hit those numbers on a de-rated motor pretty easily. He said that the cam for the Daytona is more aggressive than the STR cam but for a dual sport you would lose too much low end to gain more top end so this was a good compromise.

I'd like a report about the ABS when you get a chance. They're much more main stream these days but still sounds like a weird idea to me. Back brake sure, but I dunno if I'd like my front brake pulsating.

My bike's been garaged during our 5 70+ degree days this year, I need to fix that.

After 500 miles of bugs, gravel and dirt roads it needed a bath. Had to make it pretty for Friday's dinner/group ride/after party at island ride so I snapped a quick cell phone pic.

Curly, to answer your question I have mashed on the front brake on a gravel road - worst case and you can feel it but it's pretty subtle. Also, you can turn the ABS off for, say, more serious dirt riding where you want to be able to lock a brake but I haven't noticed it as being intrusive and I have put quite a bit of gravel miles on it.

It's going to get knobby tires for better gravel/dirt handling. I had to replace my first tube in the rear a week after I had it so I just bought tire spoons and a big C clamp to break the bead. It's not tough to do at all and I'm no longer tied to a shop. I bought extra front and rear tubes for traveling and just to keep at home because I live in sticksville.

My first bike was my dads hand me down '94 BMW K75 with ABS. Back then learning to ride in So Cal it saved my butt a few times on panic stops from vans pulling out on me. Even that old thing with 90,000+miles did well with ABS. I rode a BMW F800 in europe for a few trips. The ABS was great. I'm used to hard to read brakes on my SV and the ABS on the BMW really gives you the confidance to nail on them. You can wail on the brakes at full lean and still it doesn't unsettle.
