New car - V8 Miata

Just wanted to show everyone my new toy. She's rough but a lot of fun. Paid $8150 for her (this car was discussed here before when she was on Ebay for $12K BIN).

Cool.

I'm taking credit for this score.

By the way, your comment about "getting in the habit" of spending money cracked me up -- my wife is the exact same way. She'll call me on my cell at work to make sure it's okay to buy a $15 pair of shoes. She'll freak out a bit if the total is more than she expected at the grocery checkout. I've been working on getting her to relax a little bit about the finances while not destroying her excellent sense of frugality.

I don't know why your wife and I are wired like this. I bought a new power switch for my welder the other day. I've been putting it off because the cost for the part and shipping was $7.50 (been running it hardwired for a while).

mgeoffriau 11-23-2010 12:01 PM

Wow, that car is even rougher than I realized...I can't for the life of me understand why someone would spend that kind of money and time on a project and not start with a clean shell. It's not like Miata shells are rare or expensive.

Got some broken pics on your site, btw.

No, that is just the way I make the pages. I used to put blah blah blah over the pic code that wasn't used but I stopped for some reason.

You can't seriously call yourself a tightwad if you threw away parts. Especially stuff like floormats. I mean, come on. Somebody will want them, someday.

rmcelwee 11-23-2010 01:30 PM

The floormats came out of Red Beast (bought the car in 2003). So, I did keep them around for 7 years. I threw them out when a rat got into my shed and died. A lot of stuff that was not sealed up in plastic tubs got thrown out so Mr Mouse wouldn't have anything to live in. They were in horrible shape BUT better than what I currently have (nothing). I'm going to have to spend $25 or so on replacements now.

Nice buy. Now I need to get my car done so we can have some fun with them.

Yes you do!

Pics on your site don't work for me, anyone else?

Hmm, I think I had this problem once before with one or two people. I seem to remember ..... Nah, that was a frame problem. Are you saying there is not a single picture on my entire site (there are currently over 1,700 on there) or just the blank pictures at the bottom of some of my pages? Thanks in advance for the help with this ...

icantthink4155 11-23-2010 06:37 PM

I kinda dig the intake sticking through the hood like that.

kotomile 11-23-2010 07:07 PM

You mention redoing the swap into a new shell on the site, any plans to get a rear-mount subframe and clearance the tunnel so you can put an unmolested stock hood on it?

Shouldn't be necessary (unless I am missing something). The engine is sitting on a boss frog k-member. I think it only needs the appropriate piping to route it better.

kotomile 11-23-2010 07:15 PM

Yeah, I was coming back to edit my post now that I'd seen "Day 1" and you reminded me that it's only like that because the owner tried to cram everything in front of the TB.

Edit - Do you already have a plan for the heater hoses? I don't like seeing them on display atop the engine either.

chpmnsws6 11-23-2010 07:16 PM

The hood needs some minor trimming for the throttle body.... At least on the rearward V8R swap. All that was mute with the hood venting anyway.

kotomile 11-23-2010 07:31 PM

Right, but the skin remains intact.

18psi 11-23-2010 08:18 PM

great car except for that "nose" pokin out the hood.

I haven't stared for hours under the hood but I should be able to find some sort of right angle hoses that will bring them down behind the back of the engine. I would SO like to put some valve covers on that said "Corvette".
