New DD!! - And, school me on Tail of the Dragon
4 Attachment(s)
Just replaced my Jetta III VR6 with this:
Attachment 9504 Attachment 9505 Attachment 9506 Attachment 9507 Its a 2001 540i with the 6 speed and M package with 72k on it. Its a terrific freeway car, to pass while cruising at 80 mph all I need to do is downshift to 5th and I can pass 20 cars in one shot. The torque is just phenomenal. Oh yeah, more importantly, it drives just like a big Miata in terms of steering feel and ride quality. Ok maybe a little plusher but this ain't no marshmallow mobile. Planning to take it on a long roadtrip down to Deals Gap, NC and onto Myrtle Beach, SC this coming week. I know many of you guys have been to the Dragon, any tips, advice etc. on stuff to do this time of the year? |
you're going to miss the vr-bitch-car.
|
one tip. There is a speed trap right at the entrance of the gap on the TN side so make sure you're going 30mph. I was going 39 and got pulled over. And Sunday seems to have more of a cop presence. Other than that it's awesome.

thank you all.
I did look at M5's but they are somewhat high-maintenance. And they may have VANOS and oil consumption problems. Plus DD'ing one in a Michigan winter? No chance. Plus, I just wanted something that was a stark contrast to the miata in terms of comfort and practicality, yet fun to drive. I am going to tow a racecar with this the coming year. This can tow 3000 lbs with ease, believe it or not. |
The gap is awesome. Just watch out for weather down there. Check out the Cherahola (spelling probably off) highway too. You will like the sweepers there. Stark contrast to highway 129. Make sure your tires are good and bring a video camera. I finished off a set of tires down there about 5 years ago and had two different video cameras mounted in the car. One inside and one remote mount in the grill. That grill cam made it look like I was going 900 miles an hour...

Nicely done. You are right about the car being a good compliment to your Miata. Nothing wrong with a good looking performance sedan.
By the way are you in real estate? Is your name Quido? Persian mafia member? What was that joke about BMW's and porcupines? BMW, because saying I'm better than you out loud would just be rude. ;) |

What joke are you referring to? |
Just the punchline should make the joke clear enough.
"With the porcupine the pricks are on the OUTSIDE! " I've always wanted to get my wife into a bimmer. I think she'd like the way they drive a lot. She can't get over the negative image she has of BMW drivers though. I tell her there's plenty of a-holes driving every make of car but it doesn't help. It is a very nice car! Good job. |

Really good car, just expensive for ANY parts. Though my fathers only went through 2 clutches, a coil pack, and brakes(which are retard expensive) in 80k miles. The M stands for multiplier. Multiply everything (power, money, repair costs) |
