new mustang = rice

I just skimmed a review of the '10 mustang in car and driver...

The 2010 mustang implements a new "sound induction tube" which alows you to hear the intake noise of the v8 in the cockpit when you hit the throttle... seams like RICE to me.

From cnet.com:

Buried in the midst of Car and Driver magazine's report on the 2010 Ford Mustang GT ($28,845) I spotted a reference to the engineers newfound awareness of sound. Not in the sense of a new multichannel sound system or iPod dock, no, Ford "pipes-in" the sound of the GT's 315 horsepower V-8 engine to the cockpit.

The specially designed pipe, dubbed a "Sound Induction Tube," transmits the sensual sounds of the Mustang's throbbing American V-8 muscle. In fact, the tube is fitted with a "Tuned Membrane" to provide just the right sonic splendor. Va-room! Not to worry, the Sound Induction Tube is a sound-only device, it doesn't vent engine odors or gasses into the cockpit.
Kinda reminds me of this:

LMAO go ford

Cool. Non-essential masturbatory garbage. Lame as shit. So the douchebags that currently drive mustangs are going to be even more pumped up as they hear their intakes suck. I smell amplified douchery in 2010.

mikeflys1 01-09-2009 12:29 AM

lol omg it has something that isnt essential, the car is junk! :jerkit:

~315hp, pretty good handling, nice looking, $27k....seems pretty sweet to me

cardriverx 01-09-2009 12:52 AM

A bunch of new cars have these... the new GTI comes to mind..

more like 30k after tazes title and all other BS stuff and they weigh close to 2 tons IE-3920 lbs

if you got 27k to drop, why are you driving a 99miata? i like the cars dont get me wrong but if i could get something for 30k i'd probably get something else thats fun, like an EVO, but not the X <-ew lol

boardboy330 01-09-2009 06:10 AM

I drive a Benz...but love the miata. Just cause you have the money to drop doesn't make it (mustang) a fun car to drive. I have to say though...I would take either one of my miatas over a Corvette/Camaro/Mustang anyday (and I used to own a corvette and camaro).

Sounds like it sucks to me.

Saml01 01-09-2009 09:17 AM

This isnt new. The current gen does the same thing. The first time I rode in my friends, it almost sounded like a supercharger. Its kinda retarded imho and I got annoyed by it pretty fast.

As for the 2010 stang. If its as good as they make it out to be, I can see myself picking one up. That is of course if they first fix the fisher price interior, and the oxcart like ride quality. But first id look for a used 911.

2010 Ford Mustang - Ford Mustang | StangNet.com

Bunch of info on to '10 stang, I was very excited when the new/old model appeared...till I drove it. Drives like total ass imo. Similar to a cheap pickup truck.

Browsing thru the above link, I don't see anything to indicate any different for 2010

This amplifies the throbbing noise generated as air is sucked into the engine and reverberates it around the cabin for an even better driving experience.

It's also been done on the Z3 and VWs as well.....It's nothing new, and I suspect it's because the build car so insulated and quiet now.

240_to_miata 01-09-2009 11:51 AM

Yeah I was surprised to know its been around for so long. I just thought it was funny the way car and driver put it, and of course the first thing that came to mind was that honda.

I keep forgetting i drive a car that you hear every single minute road noise. it must be weird to own a car with a quiet interior.

boardboy330 01-09-2009 12:01 PM

It is...my Benz is TOTALLY quiet...completely strange feeling.

LMAO go ford

The BMW Z4 has a "Customer tunable" port in there intake so you can adjust the sound in the cabin....think Ford is bad? lol

Newbsauce 01-09-2009 01:22 PM

I had an IS300 that I couldn't even hear it idling. It was a strange transition from the miata which leaves me deaf for a few moments until my ears readjust.

Sometimes I cant stand my dad's 330ci ZHP. I'll be above the redline and not even know it cause you can't hear jack shit.

cone filter > sound enhancement gayness

ChairFaceChippendale 01-09-2009 03:57 PM

audi has this on the 6cyl in the new tt too. thankfully i don't think it's made its way to any of the v8's.

and at the opposite end of the disappointing spectrum the blower on the new s4 is supposed to be pretty much silent.

my sister has one of the new mustangs. they pretty much suck ass save for the sound and the overall smoothness of the engine when you romp on it.

ford has a tsb regarding voltage finding its way into the cooling system and eating heater cores (this is on cars as recent as 06 mind you) and i know the early version of the new body style had issue with the doors opening in crashes. hopefully they've stepped it up a bit.

bryantaylor 01-09-2009 04:37 PM

i think its pretty cool idea. i for one actually like to hear my engine.

You mean the taxes, title and other bs stuff you'd pay on any new car?

Anyone can get a loan, man. I enjoy modding the shit out of cars though so Im not about to go get a brand new one just to rip it apart. If you wouldn't want one, fine. They're not for everyone but I've owned a few and have had a lot of fun with them. I just think the blind mustang hate a lot of import guys have is kind of ridiculous.

bryantaylor 01-09-2009 05:23 PM

i love mustangs, i will own one sometime. the whole reason i bought my lincoln was for that nice big american mod motor.

thirdgen 01-09-2009 07:40 PM

I like Mustangs too, but I don't like the direction they're going. Body style, YES. Engine, NO. I just had this arguement with a friend of mine today. He wanted to take me along to go look at an 02? Cobra. He is a drag guy. I said, why would you want an independent rear car to drag? Not only that, it's a DOHC motor! You are a Pontiac guy, so get like an 02 T/A with an LS-1. 330 Hp stock, and a pushrod motor. If the new stang's were pushrod engines, I might not be a Miata guy...but then again, Mustang's are fucking EVERYWHERE. How many souped up Miata's do you see?

Gotpsi? 01-10-2009 03:42 AM

Well I use to build mustangs into race cars and I would only have bought one while I worked there because parts would have been cheep and easy to come by. But I had a 02 SS camaro at the time. The thing about the mustangs up untill this new body style im not sure but you would have to spend about 10k just in the chassis to get it up to spec with the camaro I had, and that came strait out of the mouth of my boss when worked there.

i'm not blind hating on mustangs. i really dont have a problem with them except they all sound exactly the same and most owners think they're car is the fastest thing on the planet, the douchebags mentioned earlier.

My point was if i was getting a newer car for 27-30k there are several other cars I'D consider before the mustang. IE: EVO, STI, Legacy Spec-b, IS250, just to name a few. but this is my opinion so if you don't like it, i dont really care

samnavy 01-10-2009 12:41 PM

You've all seen the new Night Rider... right? The one where Kitt is a riced out GT that magically transforms into an F-150. I can't imagine the demographic that show is aimed at. The plots are too sophisticated for the 14 and under crowd, and the 15+ crowd is as tired of rice as we are. FORD has lost it's fucking mind.

hustler 01-10-2009 01:17 PM

cool motor, decent exterior, atrocious interior, garbage rear suspension. Its 2009, come the fuck on with the 1920's era alxes. I mean fuck, chain driven shit is cheaper than the ring and pinion, why not put that in the gt500?
