New Toy (Gun Inside)
So on the way to the range today I had been telling my friend how hard it has been to find a reasonably priced Springfield XD-9 or 40. Well sure enough we show up and the range had one on sale. I really love the gun, has a very good weight balance and is pretty damn accurate. Here's a pic of the 40 next to my girlfriends P22.

I've been interested in shooting the XD in 9mm but our local range doesn't have one for rent. They do have a KelTec P11 but it has been out for repair for about 3 weeks now. I don't like buying a gun without shooting it first.
BTW, we have a Walther P22 for range plinking and I would really like to get another .22LR pistol for this but I haven't liked the way any of the others feel in your hand (I'm picky about the grip). The factory case on that XD looks a little better than the POS they give you with the Walther! |

Still one of my favorites to shoot, and 22LR is 15 bucks for 550 rounds at walmart ;) Great for budget range shooting. |

In that it uses the same mags as the Mk-IIs and Mk-IIIs, you can reload with this: .22 AUTO ULTIMATE CLIP LOADER at Brownells When I'm shooting regularly, I use 1" shoot-n-sees at 10 meters with my 22-45 with a 4" barrell. As most other Rugers, I haven't had any feed problems. The only (minor) frustration is reassembly after cleaning. - L |
Brad what type of .22 do you shoot through your p22? I picked on up a couple weeks ago and it has been very picky with ammo. I have found that CCI MiniMags fire the best in it. Also what range do you normally go to? Scott, You and I should go shooting one day.

I just bought 2100 rounds of Federal Champion from Cabellas for about $92.94 shipped. A few days after I bought it Wal-Mart finally had .22LRs in stock but they were all sold out a few hours later (a friend told me about it).
CCI sells for $8/100 at our local range. |
I run the Remington standard velocity .22LR through the P22, as well as the generic Federal ammo. Have you oiled the gun? I've seen maybe one jam ever on the p22.

Gotta love the XD, but I would rather have the P22. Been wanting to buy one, but havent gotten around to it. Hurt me the other day when I bought a brick of .22 for $13.90, and a box of Remington 9mm was $13.45 :vash: 10x the cost. I need a more affordable plinker.

I'm getting ready to buy 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 for my Dad's SKS (he's loaning it to me <G>). That stuff is kind of pricey around here. Military surplus is $535 for 1100 rounds.

Before I fired a single shot on the P22 I completely disassembled it and did a fluff and buff on it (sandpaper, buffing cloth, etc). I sprayed it down with oil but I usually don't lube my guns that often. I'm not exactly sure what you are supposed to do with them <G>. I use REM Oil with Teflon on all of them and even did a Militec-1 treatment on my P32 but that is the only time I have used that stuff (Militec).
I have found that the bulk American Eagle ammo I bought have the most problems. Although it was the first ammo I used so maybe I was having problems simply because the gun had not been broken in yet. I will probably try it again this weekend when I go shooting. |

I need to go in and "fluff and buff" mine one of these days. I just am not sure I am competent enough to take apart the gun and make sure I get it back together.
