New used car recommendations

Ok, so I need something that is presentable and fun. Under $10k would be good.

1) How are the E36/E46 BMWs (non M3)? Or are only M3's worth getting? Is there potential for non-M3s? Better years than others? Reliability? I remember hearing about electrical issues.

2) Would you rather get a S2k? Better years than others? Don't some years have dangerous oversteer tendencies? Reliability?

3) Any other suggestions?

:2cents: get a Mustang GT, 2005+ my dads gets 25-28mpg and when you put the hammer down theres plenty of power.
