New years problems! Please help

Ok so its not the miata this time its my built talon. Two days a go i found a huge cut in the heater hose so i replaced it, then the radiator started to leak from stress cracks so i put a new in. It was running just fine, until we took it for a spin got it up to about 6k and let of quick and now it will idle fine but as soon as you hit the gas the car bogs down. The day before i had put the new radiator i had put in 1/2 quart of oil. Any ideas?

did the car sit for a while? Sounds like you need to check the coil/wires/plugs.

could use some more details on the car..... "built" doesn't really mean anything without details.... even to us former DSM heads.....

I changed the plugs. I put built bc I really don’t know everything that was done to it. The car was built at forced performance right before i got it. The car had not been sitting form more than a day. I’m thinking its the mass air flow sensor now. It seems like the motor thinks there is air when there is not.

sounds like it's a dsm... no offense, but I don't think i've ever seen one that ran 100% right.

do this.... check all the intercooler piping for me.... are you running the factory sidemount? or a front mount? My laser liked to blow intercooler piping off the supra sidemount.... and my buddies gs-t spyder had similar issues when it blew a coupler after a drag strip run....

Is the AFM plugged in????? check that again for shits and giggles, also check to make sure that It's oriented correctly....

get back to me when you have done this and we'll go from there.....

I looked over all piping and its all good, it is the Mass air flow. The honey comb looking thing, well the hack a hole under it and rewire the computer in it to improve air. So i covered the honey comb thing, if the sensor was working it would have belive there was no air and the car would have turned off. Right?

TurboMiatKid 01-03-2007 01:42 AM

Huge front mount

Does sound like IC piping is off. You really need to pressure test the system. Could be the TPS. That could also explain solid idle, bogging under throttle.

can you borrow someone else's mass air to test it out? that would rule out the mass air as an issue....

if there is a screw up with the hacked mass air.... that can cause all sorts of odd problems.... as it is a sensetive piece of equipment.....

so you're saying that you blocked all flow to the MAF and the car continued to run?????

TurboMiatKid 01-03-2007 07:07 PM

Yes, only the honey comb part with the sensor not the hacked part. The only air that "should" read has to pass it, and the car would think there was no air and die, (it would still be getting air from the hacked part but not knowing it). Having it run with the honey comb part covered would tells me the sensor is not working. If the car ran when i covered Both the honey comb part and the hacked part that would poin to an air leek in the piping.

allright..... then I suggest trying a non hacked MAF.... should be able to borrow one pretty easy....

TurboMiatKid 01-03-2007 11:21 PM

Yep too bad i dont know any one around or in Austin with a Dsm. Dose it have to be the turbo MAF?

airbrush1 01-04-2007 08:52 PM

yes, has to be the turbo MAF

airbrush1 01-04-2007 08:53 PM

have you tried www.dsmtalk.com ?????

lots of good info there (though it's been a while since I did anything but lurk)
