Nice car, sloppy execution by tuner...

This Porsche reminds me of that sloppy, twin rear-mounted turbo BMW M5: lots of power, blingy on the outside, shitty execution and build-quality under the hood (or trunk).

http://seriouswheels.com/cars/top-20...rbo-TRC-91.htm

Ugly blue silicone hoses (nothing else in the engine bay is blue), cheap worm-gear clamps, not particularly beautiful welds (given the price and caliber of the car) that could've easily been ground down or TIG'd to polish or powdercoat the charge pipe which doesn't even use a smooth transition pipe to reduce the diameter of the tubing , incorrectly installed bypass valves, chintzy-looking clear straw vacuum tubing, visible zip ties galore, etc.

LMOA!!!

I can almost say my $1000 miata was claner than that to some extent.

Stop being :gay: .

That car has 9 freakin hundred hayeach pee.

Worm clamps work fine and often hold a better seal.

You hit 600 with your miata, then talk shit.

Let me know when you hit 900. You're only about 700 short. :gay:

3.1s 0-60 is the important bit.

cjernigan 06-21-2007 01:24 AM

Beats the hell out of anything I have, don't care how ghetto fab it might be. Those Bosch BOVs come stock on alot of porsche's don't they?

magnamx-5 06-21-2007 08:55 AM

I would rock it. For some reason i dont think it looks that bad. It could use abit of red or something to punch up the black other than that seems nice.

with the forces invovled with t-clamps you gotta be kidding me...

and why does one need 600BHP to critize?

never in my right mind would I do anything I do to miata like I would in my Porche...

There's one thing about being DIY on a budget on a car 13 years old, no less, and often worth less than the turbo/manifold/DP alone...

there's also another thing about paying a large lump sum of money for a something that looks DIY, cheap & amatuer.

So untill you make 364BHP, (227.5BHP * 1.6L) with your miata, wont dont you just shut up.

bripab007 06-21-2007 09:42 AM

My point was that, for the entry price on that car, modified by that tuner...I would expect more than ugly welds/transitions, zip ties and worm-gear clamps.

fmowry 06-21-2007 10:25 AM

He's probably only running 6-8 psi on the turbos. The worm gears would work fine. Hell good worm gears are better than some of the crappy chinese T-bolts being sold now.

Granted for the price of the kit, I'd expect top of the line stuff but there's no problem with what's in there aside from the welds.

exactly, me too.

jayc72 06-21-2007 10:38 AM

A T-bolt clamp may not have worked since that pipe is oval and not round. How is it that the BOVs are installed incorrectly?

Braineack 06-21-2007 10:50 AM

looks like the outlet/inlet are reversed....

good catch about the ovalness of the TB, however, worm clamps still suck my ass off...."over-torque" them and they break, when fully clamped you can still pull really hard and get the pipe off, the design of the gears cause them to eat into the silicone when everything moves around and vibrates over time.

I spent good money to replace all my pressurzied pipe's worm clamps with t-clamps and never looked back. and huh, never had a pipe pop after that either.

jayc72 06-21-2007 11:01 AM

I've installed the same BOV on my car in both orientations. Each worked eaqually well. However when installed like in the picture I didn't get an obnoxious high pitch farting noise. People have said in OE applicaitions that the valve has been installed both ways.

If there is a bead on the pipe the worm clamp should hold. But I agree, they suck in that if you get to manly with them the break. And the tend to chew up the coupler.

I don't know guys. Who would you rather fuck? Hot chick who is lazy, or less hot chich who is a freak in bed? I'll take the freak thanks! :)

BenR 06-21-2007 11:05 AM

T- bolt clamps need very flat smooth round surfaces, any kink or imperfection often leads to leaks. But then again you wrote a FAQ so you must know everything about everthing.

My point is, some of you guys are being nitpicky just like the mods at m.net that you whine about.

The car works, who cares if it has a few zipties?

Braineack 06-21-2007 11:09 AM

no, but i'm loud and opinionated.

i also have little patience, care to test?

jsisco 06-21-2007 11:33 AM

I'd take the freak..but

I agree the setup looks bad for the price tag of the car, and the fact that they are calling it a work of art and a polished up supercar. But that is all based on looks. If it really makes all that power and is some what reliable the tuner isn't that big of a turkey.

No offense Kurt but how does having a 911SC from the 80s let you talk shit? Everyone on here has their opinions, and we can express them as long as we don't over step our bounds with the mods. I just don't understand why having a car that has very little in common with the topic gives you more of a say. Sorry it just seemed like you were one upping.

iluvtruenos 06-21-2007 12:05 PM

Exactly, and my penis is bigger than all of yours.

I'm thankful that all those items are more than acceptable for a diy job on a $3k Miata. :bigtu:

What's that?....Oh, right, that's only the ENTIRE FUCKING POINT OF MY POST, folks.
