nickel 6UL's, or 15x7.5 bronze rota slipstreams?

the rotas are the same weight, similar price, bronze, and readily available.

I don't really want to drop money on wheels, just to spend another $200 to get the powder-coated bronze, so I was thinking get the nickel so I can have a set of bronze street wheels, silver track wheels.

Any thoughts?

do the 6ul's come mounted for that price?

I'm a bitch and can't decide...but I'm really tired of going to the track on street tires.

Kelly 08-19-2007 01:48 AM

Even as much as you see the Slipstreams they just have a great "track wheel" look. I can't stand the 6UL's. They seem to ruin the decent look of every Miata they are on. Good call going bronze :bigtu:.

cjernigan 08-19-2007 02:01 AM

The slipstreams are alright but there are so many honda's in my area that have them that I decided no way. I bought nickel 6ULs. They'll be great.
If you're expecting to just buy some though, I'm pretty sure they're sold out with no plans for production soon.
I know he had a few sets left a few weeks ago though.

hustler 08-19-2007 04:26 AM

they're all gone. There's enough demand, emelio will make more.

hustler 08-19-2007 04:30 AM

fyi, I'm still trying to trade my vw for wheels and other creative trades.

y8s 08-19-2007 10:21 AM

The green car would be the hottest shit on planet terra. I'm going to email him and see if I can get a set with no paint on them. Actually, I'd have to powdercoat them because my pads have etched the paint on my stockers.

If they would have just made them more BBS style they would be so much better looking. The spokes start to close to the hub. Thats what ruins it for me. Its not really fair comparing anything to the sickest wheel ever made though ;)

fmowry 08-19-2007 01:19 PM

BBS are a PITA to clean though with the rivets. Had a set on my Eclipse. They looked good though.

That said, I have the nickel 6ULs ordered for my Emerald Mica. Should look good.

the more i see dark cars with bronze wheels the more I kinda want my bronzes back on my black.

amen. I loved my RC's on the vw, but I seriously hated cleaning them. I also painted them black with a red lip in 1998, before it was cool.

Lets make hustler buy them so I can get out of debt...yay.

I dunno. I kinda like the 6ULs. I didn't buy them for looks, but they turned out pretty nice.:bigtu:

jayc72 08-20-2007 01:10 AM

15x8 > 15x7.5

miatamania 08-20-2007 01:19 AM

6uls look good on black cars...especially in nickel...damn Savington that shit looks good.

Efini~FC3S 08-20-2007 02:40 PM

I love the look of my 6ul's, to each his own.

and I second that 15x8 > 15x7.5

That's a good idea, IMO, in 15 x 8. I would ask Emilio if he has any of the black 15x8s left; I know they weren't selling too well for him. I'd also ask if he's going to make the 15x9s for the rear. :bigtu:

cjernigan 08-20-2007 03:08 PM

I think he's looking into the 15x10s and then some 15x7.5s for spec guys.
I can't imagine.

Ben 08-20-2007 03:17 PM

ahh, well he said that up to 15x9.5 would fit inside the fenders. so 15x10 would require flares.

Philip 08-20-2007 03:20 PM

jesus here we go again

robert f melbert jr back in the hizouse.

cjernigan 08-20-2007 03:29 PM

Man 15x9s would be sick in the rear, be a bummer not being able to rotate tires though.

TurboTim 08-20-2007 03:47 PM

Who is Emilio? And 9 or 10" wheel in the back of a Miata? Shit. I wanna know.

I've seen some sick pics of the RPF1's on the NC's, these kinda look like those. Is one a knock-off of another?

Emilio has alluded to making a 15x9 that could fit FRONT AND BACK, or a 15x10 that would fit the back only. :bigtu:

cancelation= the cops almost confiscated a set but then realized they had a warrant issue so he needs to move them fast. No rims no crime right ;)

Ben 08-23-2007 09:15 AM

I wish I could 'find' a set of the 6ULs on a car near me.

magnamx-5 08-23-2007 09:24 AM

well chad will have some soon maybe you can snag them when he goes down to ATL next time

note to self, do not let Ben know if I ever go with 6uls :gtfo:

cjernigan 08-23-2007 11:36 AM

Man I need a set of locking lug nuts for my new wheels.

hustler 08-23-2007 12:12 PM

I changed my mind. I'm going to get another set of stockers, and buy sway bars, engine and diff mounts, "sport" brakes for the front, and dyno time.

I don't think I'm ready for r-compound rubber yet, so I'm going to also buy a TV instead.

There's really no point. Its easy to snap a lug off when only one holds the wheel.

jayc72 08-23-2007 12:23 PM

Dude if you are serious about racing, buy the right equipment and get R's. Running street tires on the track is false economy. An RA-1 will last and last and be able to take the heat and abuse.

I'm more worried about it masking bad habits and poor technique. I think I'm going to run one more set of azenis before I switch to ra-1's. Do you think 250whp on a 205 r-compound is going to be challenging? Will the 225 give me that much more grip in terms of tire spinnage?

jayc72 08-23-2007 12:35 PM

I run 215/13 V710 and I seriously need more tire. This is autocross where there are serious demands put on traction.

RA-1 isn't going to mask bad habits. By that logic you should ditch the Azenis and run a Kumho Supra 711. Besides once you put that turbo in the car you are going to have to relearn how to drive, and it'll be harder.

hustler 08-23-2007 12:47 PM

Then I'll consider 205 ra-1's for the 15" stockers.

jayc72 08-23-2007 12:55 PM

225/45 would be the better choice.

Well, that's like a $700 difference. I'm tired of spending money.

jayc72 08-23-2007 01:09 PM

$700 more than what?

6ul's with tires and shipping.

y8s 08-23-2007 01:23 PM

:robert:

Forget masking your skills. if you have bad skills, they'll show up in your lap time more than anywhere else.

in reality, you'll have to re-learn how to drive on race tires anyway so why not start there?

jayc72 08-23-2007 01:25 PM

I'd put the 225/45 on the stock 15X6 wheels. Not ideal, but it'll work.

I bet you end up spending that money sometime in the near future anyway. It might be a year from now but I just about guarantee you upgrade.

at this point I need $2500 to buy a membership at the local track. I'm saving pennies now...but still lack the FM swap kit and machine work on the motor. I guess I should just go ahead and buy the swap kit.

cjernigan 08-23-2007 02:13 PM

Sounds like a plan. I would go small RA-1s and stocker wheels till I had the money for the track membership.

Savington 08-23-2007 02:38 PM

God you suck at decision making.

:inout:

Also, 250rwhp will be challenging on any tire. For my car (200rwhp), 225/45 RS2s vs. 225/45 NT01s, I was able to hook 3rd gear on the R-comps exiting any corner pretty much immediately. With the street tires, I could wag the ass pretty good in 3rd.

I have all the parts now, I just need to go home and do it. I still have no clue when I'm going home either.

Savington 08-23-2007 11:37 PM

Hustler, Emilio had another set of Nickels cancel tonight, about 30 minutes ago. Jump on that shit, son.
