Went there on Memorial day a few years ago and watched Bush conduct the wreath laying ceremony and the speech. Huge crowd, of course. There was a hubbub in the crowd. The soldier actually stopped, faced the crowd and in a loud voice commanded silence and repsect for the fallen. You could have heard a pin drop after that. I'm glad that he did it, too.
My wife and I actually took it upon ourselves to visit each of the war memorials that day. It was the least that we could do. |
When I visited it was storming, and the lightning was the closest I'd ever seen it, and it didn't phase them a bit. Awesome.
I need to instill some of this in my Joes, you'd think they stopped teaching drill and ceremony at BCT altogether... |
All of the training and discipline has gone soft compared to what it was. It's like all branches secretly went Air Force or something. :)
Hard training and hard discipline is never appreciated by soldiers until it saves their lives. And those of members of their platoon. |

I'd love to be able to do Honor Guard there but 6' minimum, I'm 5'10, oh well. |

I was at Arlington with my Dad when I was younger, and while it was "special" and he explained everything to me, I didn't truly understand. I'd like to go back and check it all out again. |
