Since I'm posting a little here, I thought I'd put up a few pics of my BP(T) powered Escort:

Here's the dyno plot. This was not on megasquirt, but on an SAFC with a stock GTX turbo ECU. The 270whp run was quite lean and the second run is what we left it at.
I have not dynoed since the MS install. I am not going to do so until I drop in my newly built motor and LSD. The turbo is a ball bearing one found on the Mazda Familia GTR overseas and is good for 25 psi on the 1.8 (somewhere between the Garrett GT28 and GT30). My goal is 320whp at 22psi. |
For those that don't know, the motor in the 91-96 Escort GT and 90-94 Protege LX is essentially the same motor as the Miata 1.8 BP. Some cars came with this motor in a FWD and AWD configuration overseas were turbocharged from the factory. The most rare is the Familia GTR (looks like a 323) which was rally prepped, AWD, had this large turbo, better internals than any other BP and only 2500 were made worldwide. Stock power at 7 psi was 210hp.
The Miata was the only RWD application of the BP (and B6) motors. |
