Arguing about diffs?
lol. I was on Miata.net, looking for NA info and ran across a diff question. I read through some posts and next thing I know, I'm watching a bunch of guys argue over the definition of "differential" and whatnot. I swear. Some people just can't help themselves.

As Reagan use to say....."There you go again....."
Political correctness =
Point is - when someone says "differential" - I still know what the hell they are talking about.
So the next time one of them mentions a problem with their motor....jump on the bandwagon and tell 'em "Engine!!!"
Engines are for combustion, and Motors are electric.
Then let's see if they are going to make a movement to change a majority of the Politically incorrect names for racetracks. ie: Texas Motor Speedway
Should really be: Texas Engine Speedway
Doh! There I go again......

sure is....adding fuel:
The differential is the entire assembly. a torsen is a component of the differential, bub.
Calling a torsen, "the differential" is like calling a number pad, "the phone."
Calling a torsen, "the differential" is like calling an ink cartridge, "the printer."
Calling a torsen, "the differential" is like calling a shock, "the suspension."
Calling a torsen, "the differential" is like calling a steering wheel, "the steering system."
Calling a torsen, "the differential" is like calling a condenser, "the a/c."
Calling a torsen, "the differential" is like calling a caliperl, "the brakes."
The differential is a device to allow to wheels to rotate at different speeds, so one wheel doesn't slide/skid/shop when turning around a corner. A locking differential could have a open, torsen, viscous, or clutch gear assembly installed within it.

Mazda is confused at times too, since some words can be translated between English/Japanese with more than one meaning.
