I totally don't have to pay $600. I can just let the car sit in my garage, collecting dust. FOR FREE.

disturbedfan121 Jan 2, 2008 02:25 AM

Damn Scot This is exactly why i have been pushing for bigger stickier tires on high HP miatas. Glad to see you are alright GL with Rev2Red 2.0
I gues the count is as follows
3 engines
2 cars
1 strangely unlucky owner
 I hope things go better for you in the future man.

Braineack Jan 3, 2008 09:04 AM

I have a local miata guy offering a free shell if i help him with a timing belt install.

basically a stripped miata, no interior, doors, dash, entire front clip needs replacing (hood, fenders, bumper), existing panels need a bit of bodywork.

I dunno if I'd be better off just doing that and swap everything over, or find a $1500-2000 good running 100-150k miata and using as much of it as i can, then selling the rest of the parts. (engine, diff, interior, etc.)

Joe Perez Jan 3, 2008 11:25 AM

That sounds like a bigger project than I'd want to take on. Going with a high-mileage but otherwise straight and complete car and simply swapping the drivetain and electronics sounds like a much better idea even if it sets you back 2 or 3k. Nothing worse than jumping into a basket case like that and then getting massively discouraged after a month or two because nothing is going right.

miatamania Jan 3, 2008 11:34 AM

Man that sucks...I'm glad your alright, that might have hurt had it hit in the door...still had to hurt period. :o

But you need to find a 1.8 and sell me you 1.6 turbo + head stuff and I'll give ya my head and part it out :)

Braineack Jan 3, 2008 11:40 AM

if i find a 1.8L body for cheap, ill swap my 1.6L in place :)

Couldn't you take his shell and put it on your car, instead of trying to put your car under his shell? Joe's right about not wanting to build it from scratch, but take a few panels and the diff out of his car and you're set?

Braineack Jan 3, 2008 12:52 PM

im sure my frame will never allow me to track straight again.

sbrian2 Jan 3, 2008 02:13 PM

The swap would be very easy if you have access to a lift. Just unbolt the shock mounts and diff and front subframe, undo some electrical and water connections and drop the exhaust hangers and take everything from your car as a whole and put it in the other shell. All you would need to do then is swap interior and electronics.

would four buff dudes from northern virginia be able to lift a miata shell sans subframes/drivetrain?

Ben Jan 3, 2008 03:04 PM

yes, w/o a doubt.
