I had a 01 750 back in the day. Have fun. There was a reason I sold mine. But i was a jackass 19 year old too. Have a blast, those are too much fun, and a great source of cheap thrills.

I wanted a decent commuter to work, since daily driving the miata is getting a bit tiresome. Its going to be hot here for the next 10 months or so lol, so I figured I'd get me a bike.

This thing is 07 w/ 6k miles on it, in good shape with all receipts/records, and I got a great deal on it. He threw in a bunch of extras like a jacket, gloves, battery charger, etc.

Thats what I was thinking.

Man I want a bike but I almost busted my *** on my first and last ride. I got right on the bike (600cc) my first time and it was tooo easy, shifting clean as **** and everything. I was getting comfortable and in third gear the front wheel started rising and I kicked my legs out and let off. I almost cracked my skull

Here is my n00bish and mediocre review of both, since I was debating between a 250 vs 500....KEEP IN MIND: I bought this strictly for commuting to work, and putting around. The LAST thing on my mind is making it faster/modding it or doing anything crazy/stupid. Main goals with bike: save money on gas riding to/from work, hopefully cut commute time by quite a bit since in traffic I can just drive between cars, and just have sane, safe, fun on a bike. I have absolutely ZERO desire to race this thing, ride it fast, or "STUNT" like those ------s we seen on youtube.

So I rode both the 250 and 500 before getting this thing. Here are my impressions:

The 250 is a bit more "tossable" and you do feel the less weight too. Low speed corners, streets, etc it feels great and easier to maneuver than the 500. Getting up to 65 is definitely not a problem, but going much faster than that you have to REALLLLy squeeze the bike and its basically screaming trying to keep up. Torque difference is noticeable down low the most: below 4k its deader than a disobedient hooker.

500 is a teeny bit taller, and a bit heavier, and it is definitely felt more and more the slower you take corners or when just standing there at a light. On the freeway it feels only a LITTLE more confident than the 250, just barely. Torque wise though its quite a bit better. You hit the gas going 65mph on the freeway in 6th and the bike actually MOVES instead of screams and barely goes.

Overall I just had to have something that takes a little less effort to accelerate, even though the 500 eats quite a bit more fuel. Who knows: I may want to take my wife for a ride someday, or whatever, and I just didn't want to struggle up a hill on a 250 like a moped.

Under 2 grand? Are you shitting me...to get a bike here is like 4000-6000$ they want for a 500 or 600cc and they got roughly the same milage or even more. Im always looking on ebay for a bike there dirt cheap but then theres taxes and importing fees

Damn, that thing looks clean. I guess I don't know Ninjas, I was going to guess it was maybe an early 00's, maybe even a late 90's. Looks more "primitive" than a late model. I like simple in a bike though. Have fun on it and be safe.

Well I did look on craigslist for quite some time, and I did jew the guy down like mad. He tried to resist, but I took out a wad of cash, his eyes lit up and the deal was more or less done

Thanx. That's the thing with these 250-500cc bikes: most of them BASICALLY have the same engine/frame/design from like early 90's all the way to 06-07.

Only in 08 did most of them get a major redesign.
If it aint broke don't fix it is their motto I guess

yup pretty much the same bike they've always been making, my first bike was an 89 ex500, mostly black. nothing wrong with these bike if you're gonna use it just as you intended. you'll see around 50mpg. I kept mine for only one season, then got my cbr. my main reason for the upgrade was tires, suspension, and brakes mainly because i wanted to go faster.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to do last summer, I was looking at a black/blue one. Nice basic bike cheap ins (more than the miata for me). You may have started something that will get me in trouble .

My challenge is that the wife isn't sure if she would feel safe going for a ride and she wants to be able to go if she feels like it.

Have fun it's gotta be better on gas that my dad's Goldwing, even my Miata is.

I just opened this thread and the first thing that popped into my head was Vin Diesel saying, "you're gonna need more than a crotch rocket!"
