Ok new dilema
 

my GF wants to help me pull my motor. WTF at first i almost laughed at the idea but now i figure might as well let her see it and make up her own mind. Girl has no real mechanical background sure she is smart and a hard worker but, she has no idea what she volunteered to get herself into lol. Just thought i would share this and gather your thoughts etc. What do you guys think about it when your GF's etc volunteer to help do shit like that even though they are out of their league? And what is the general reaction you would have. 1 ok lets get you dirty 2 lol no way get out of my garrage or 3 meh you might as well try it and see

When I first met my gf now wife I had just bought my jet boat. I asked if she wanted to help rebuild the 440 Olds in it. It lasted about as long as she could use the impact LOL. I had a previous gf that loved to turn wrench. Never know till you get a busted knuckle and grease under the nails :D.

Hayley is a very pretty girl. I'd let her help just to have her around, but then my wife would probably be upset.

But if my wife ever offered to help out in the garage I'd slap that bitch right then and there and call a lawyer...because I'd know she had cheated on me or some shit. My wife couldn't give a rat's ass about what it takes to get anything done. I have to explain how important some project is just to get 1/2 as much garage time as I need.

Magna...just take it easy and take time to explain. Don't get frustrated. If she's expressing interest in your stuff the last thing you want is to discourage her. She's apparently got a good attitude that you want her to keep throughout ya'll's relationship.

My girlfriend helped me pull my motor. And then 3 months later do the clutch in the car. I'm lucky to have a girl that's open to my interests. I'm gonna marry her for sure.

my g/f has a tendency to call me 10 times in a row when im under the car and am holding something really heavy right above my head. examples:

had an entire 2.5" mild steel exhaust system w/ cat and muffler fall on my chest once because she called in a wrong time...

then another time she called me 17 times in a row (no kidding!) while i was pulling a fuel line off... of course, ive got fuel in my eyes!

shes like a bad charm when it comes to me fixing cars and her calling...

My wife has helped me pull motors before. Twice, if I remember right. It was really no problem. She's also helped me drop a tranny and change a clutch.

I say let her. It's not very hard pulling a Miata motor anyway.

What's your temper like working around the car? If you get frustrated, pissed off and snippy if bolt breaks off, you bash your knuckles, nothing's going right and your helper does something stupid DO NOT let her help. If you can keep your cool in those situations, be polite when asking for a tool, help or giving directions great, Let her help.

My GF goes through stages of wanting to help and does good when she does and then a few months later after endless hours in the garage she wants to do something else. I tried to explain it would take lots and lots of time to build a car but got the same response in then and now. First it is ok hunny it will be fine, now its when are you gonna be done. Next week it will be can I help you with any thing. I say let her help the worst thing that could happen is she enjoys it.

Its a motor pull, not a wedding or brain surgery. Jesus. Just say OK and go to it. Pulling an engine is not that big of a deal.

Personally I am more likely to get into an argument with the girly if we are stuck in traffic or attending some lame event that bores the hell out of me.

If she hates it, OK. If she loves it, OK. If its just meh, OK.

My girlfriend before my wife was a big help when it came to wrenching. She knew what tools were what, would get on my crotchrocket to run and get parts, etc. She was pretty bad ass, to bad I had to ditch her because she was a hoe.

My GF is learning. She helped bleed brakes but when I initially asked her to stomp the pedal she asked "which one?" lol She did some road tuning with the VE table on the way to HHR a couple months ago, that was cool.

I had a similar event at TX MC when someone helped me bleed my brakes and I someone asked "why is no fluid coming out?" The slave cylinder was working properly though, lol.

My wife is very helpful if I ask, but in exchange I have to go with her to watch other women bellydance sometimes.

She can tell you the four different cycles of a four cycle engine by name and explain them. I dig that.

And she didn't change after we got married. I think you just have to date long enough that the newness wears off. People can only be on their best behavior for so long before the real them comes out. But you can miss the warning signs about the real them if you are in denial or naive about them.

well update motor went out flawlessly and despite not knowing a ratchet from a combo wrench when we began the project it would smoothly and easily.
