Omfg! I hate ebay, never will i use again!
I havent used ebay in over a year. Wanted to sell something. All excited to be able to take the lady out to dinner this weekend....that is until I see my email:
NOTICE OF PAYMENT RECEIVED - PLEASE SHIP ITEM Dear Scott Spaulding, You've received a payment, detailed below. We’ve placed a temporary hold on the funds for this transaction. PayPal and eBay are working together to make payments for eBay items even safer. Because we want both buyers and sellers to feel confident about sending and receiving payments through PayPal, we may temporarily hold payments for items sold on eBay. Make sure to ship the item right away, so you'll have access to the funds sooner. We’ll release the hold in 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. We may release the hold earlier if either of the following occurs:
If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved. Learn more about the PayPal policy for payment holds for eBay items. We will notify you by email when the funds are released. You can monitor the status of the hold in your Transaction History. * This applies to US domestic transactions that are shipped by USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either (i) use PayPal shipping labels to ship items or (ii) provide tracking information to PayPal. What should I do now? We've completed Payment Review and placed a temporary hold on this transaction. To get the funds sooner, please ship right away. We'll release the hold after 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction. We may release the hold earlier if:
biggest bunch of bullshit ever. |
Wow! When did that start? I just sold something on eBay not too long ago and that didn't happen. That's fucked up.
|
beats me!!!!! :vash:
|
sounds like the same kinda scam the banks pull waiting for a check to clear. you know it cleared immediately, they just want to hold your money for a few extra days.
|
You left some stuff out:

Here are some common reasons for holding payments: * You have been an eBay member for less than 6 months, and you sell an item for more than $100, or * You have an eBay feedback score of less than 100, and you sell an item for more than $100, or * You have a Buyer dissatisfaction percentage** 5% or greater than 5%, or * You have an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of less than 4.5, or * You have received fewer than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 12 months, or * You are listing your item in a high-risk category such as gift certificates, video games, cell phones, computers or consumer electronics. PayPal doesn’t hold payments for eBay items if you meet the following: * You have been an eBay member for 6-months or more, and * Your total Feedback score is 100 or greater, and * Your Buyer dissatisfaction percentage** is less than 5%. Or * Your average DSR is 4.5 or greater and * Your have received 20 or more DSRs in the last 12-months * Your buyer dissatisfaction percentage is less than 5% How can I avoid receiving an eBay item hold? Here are some things you can do: * Improve your DSR feedback rating * Follow the PayPal best practices to reduce buyer disputes, claims and chargebacks * Resolve all disputes, claims, and chargebacks quickly |
fuck that shit

100% BULLSHIT. I won't be selling on ebay any more. Period. This is ebay's attempt to keep from going under. Their stocks have fallen for a while.
|
I hate paypal even more than ebay..they both need to die in a fire
same thing happened to me a year or so ago........after 10 emails with all proof, 6 phone calls, and 2 faxes, I finally started yelling at the top of my lungs and using every cuss word I knew. they passed the phone call on to a manager, 2 seconds later all was good :) I suggest you do the same. |
I love paypal, but damn those fees. I upgraded my account thinking I would get a break, instead now I pay 3.9% on everything!
Before I upgraded I wouldn't even get charged a fee at times... But I don't know of a better way to send/receive payment for an item from person/person on the internet... I've actually had quite long talks with my sister-in-law about implementing a barter system. She works for a company and we would have access to software for it. But it's one of those things that only works if a decent size group of people are interested, all or nothing kind of thing.. |
Wow, I nearly sold a monitor on eBay this week. Sold it on CL. Cash > Paypal

Bullshit.

That's horse shit.

I only ever sold 1 thing... it was a collector matchbox car I found. I sold it for 99 cents with 3.95 shipping. I lost money as ebay charged me like 3 bucks to sell it. I'm sure I wasnt doing something right, but I swore I wouldnt sell again. They just sucked it right off my paypal.
Paypal is a pain in the ass, but it's a savior as well. I almost got stuffed on an ill fitting header. After no response or help from the vendor, paypal gave my money back. Otherwise, I would have been stuffed. |
Now. My experience with eBay was only as a buyer. And it went VERY well. I bought a Millenia S supercharger for 230 bucks. Looked waaayy too good to be true. Got it in the mail, and? Minimal oil in the intake and by the time I got into the thing and pulled the screws (rotors) from the housing- I found that the unit was in prime condition and that it was ready for action. Then I fucked it up when re-assembling it and screwed myself out of 230 bucks and a way under priced supercharger.

Don't even get me started on Paypal. I was in the turbo blanket group buy and this is what happened. This is part of the PM to Zabac trying to explain the situation:
Apparently there was a problem. Paypal charged my blanky purchase to my bank account which had insufficent funds in it. I don't know what happened. When I checked out I clicked on the "add funding options" but it kept referring to my bank account with my credit card. I even logged out and logged back in to see if it was a fluke and it kept doing the same thing. It said it would use funds in my account and if there wasn't enough it would take the remainder off my card. I thought this would be ok...WRONG! It charged my account twice then used my credit card. Now I have 2 NSF charges at my bank! I'm so pissed. I called paypal last night and got the run around. I'm calling again tonight and reading them the riot act to try to get this sorted out. I'm so sorry this happened. According to the email I got today, your payment was sent out earlier. Please call me if there is still any problem. After this, I don't trust paypal at all. Hopefully there is still some blankys left. It's been almost 2 weeks and just now received the emails saying there's a problem. THIS SUCKS! I'm inches from closing my paypal and going back to money orders. This is the first problem I have had with them but it was enough. :fawk:Paypal |
I just snagged a rare NOS Ford turbo manifold for peanuts off of eBay, so I'm happy with it at the moment... that could change at any time, though.

One Personal Account - No fees for accepting payments, can only receive payments originating from a bank account, or PayPal funds. Can't accept credit or debit cards. One Premier Account - 2.9% + 30 cent fee on every payment received. Give your buyer the option, and make them eat the fee. Each account needs to be tied to a separate bank account. I've done $150k+ in PayPal transactions and haven't had one single problem. I will say that they don't do a good job of explaining that if you "upgrade" to a Premier account, it'll cost you to accept payments. C |

FAIL!

my ebay feedback is 2 and i've been a member since 99.
one item was great and one was a scam piece of shit waste of money. |
I stopped using ebay altogether for anything but buying. It is no longer beneficial to sell there with the existence of craigslist. I always list an item for significantly cheaper because you factor in:
1> the ebay F* you fee 2> the paypal F* you fee 3> shipping and the effort it takes me to package items |
I think I'm in the minority, I think this policy is good in a way. However the policy does leave it wide open for abuse. But maybe buyers and sellers will be a little more picky who they deal with.
Seriously, if you are so strapped that selling something on Ebay is holding you back from taking your wife out to dinner ... you might want to think your 'investment' in a turbo Miata. :) |

Abuse is going to be a problem for sure. Anyone can buy something, get it, and then file a dispute. BS.

I'm just glad the shipping isn't $20, as it just had come out of my pocket. |
I went to list something on ebay earlier this week.
Video game with average selling price of $9. Somehow, they wanted $2.35 for the insertion fee. Add their 'final value' and then let paypal take their cut... They'd easily be pocketing 50%. Load of crap. Selling on craigslist instead. |
damn no wonder ebay trafic is down fuck that shit i gues i need to find a new source of turbos and manifolds
|
I love ebay.....thats how I finance probably 50% of what I spend on the miata. :)
I just sold my second tonneau cover that I got for free with the hardtop I bought off ebay. That takes the total price down to....$350 for a mint black hardtop. On CL you'd probably be lucky to snag one for $800-$900, if that. Ebay can make or break you. Vash- |
In for old thread bump!

I'll add something about the Paypal account upgrade. It's required to get your money if someone decides to pay with a credit card so you pretty much have to do it unless you have two accounts as some have mentioned. You can do a 1 time request to have your account taken back to a personal account. If you don't sell much stuff, this may help you out. I did it and although I never got any feedback on my request from Paypal, they changed it back to a personal account. Of course, I sold something 6 months later and sure enough, the guy paid with a credit card so I'm back to premier. Gotta open me up another account. Thanks for the tip.
