I would think seriously of moving the intake filter up into the trunk and maybe cut louvres of some sort to let a lot of air in. A deep puddle or driving in heavy rain will fill the system(and motor) with water.

Thanks for the concern Bruce. I was told not to touch that as the owner "spend hours" doing it. It's a strictly drag race car anyways, if he's racing in rain then something more important is wrong. And the trunk is full of really trick fuel system components.

a 9 inch what? It would have to be a complete custom subframe as the GTO diff is unique.

well never mind that is a 12 bolt. Maybe with some good gears and cryo it will last a few passes.

very limited selection and very expensive, about 600 bucks for a gear set unless someone else has or does decide to make gears for them, but I doubt it since the car ran for 3 years and was DC'd.

Yeah it is a custom subframe, you can see it in the first picture.

While there's not as may ratio choices as a 9 inch, there's still plenty of ratios available for the 12 bolt.

According to DTS (Drivetrain Specialists):
The 9 inch is much heavier than the 12 bolt, but not much stronger. The additional pinion support bearing adds a lot of weight but not much more strength. 12 bolt ring gear is 8.875" compared to, well, 9" in the 9 inch, so there's not a huge difference there. 12 bolt cost less than an equivalent 9 inch.

DTS says they could build a Dana 60 for a lot less money than the 9 inch while being much stronger and weighing roughly the same. It has a 9.750 ring gear.

This guy has "many" (not sure the number) passes on that 12 bolt gearset. He's already on his second turbo.
