The one who really got hurt by the divorce.. A personal story

So my parents are in the middle of a divorce.

I couldn't give 2 shits, they shouldn't be together. All wrong from step 1 (they got married at 18).

I've been put on car management duty and today I went to go examine the 2001 E39 M5. Which really was/is one of my favorite cars to drive. So amazingly controllable (LSD + Balanced chassis + 400hp V8 = love) in a very muscle car way. Red on black, it was a beast and beautiful at that.

It's been sitting for 4 months, hasn't moved. Rear bumper clear coat is pealing and oxidizing. Paint looks ruined. I try to jump the car to no avail, doesn't turn over, nothing. Engine bay is filled with leaves. All the weather stripping is rotting. Last time the vehicle was started (4 months ago), it had an intense knocking noise throughout the rev range. I have no doubts how silly expensive it would be to fix.

So the real thing getting hurt by this divorce is this car. Wish I had the money to maintain it/take it for myself. Made me sad.

:bang:

At least it's a bimmer and not a 20K yellow miata though!!!

But seriously, I don't understand anyone letting a car sit, ever. There are too many people that don't have a vehicle at all and there are so many people who have 5 cars in their driveway and hardly never leave the house, it really is a shame.

Cars are like cats. There are too many out there. Those of use who collect, are like those weird little "cat ladies". Sitting around watching after our little collection and maintaining them. I'm not saying we need a "car" season, but I think something needs to be done, because the number of cars being produced each year isn't going down enough to offset the number of cars dying and rusting away.

As far as your parent's BMW? That's a waste of a vehicle. Sounds like it had a nice Hayday, but seems like too much trouble for it's own good anymore. I'd probably let it go to some shop or yard. I don't get these people that keep junked, non-running vehicles in their back yards and by or on their driveways. Its a waste. Nothing more, nothing less. There's no excuse. People next door to my girlfriend's old house would never part with a shit-up old 3 series, because "The wife liked it". Screw that and call the hauler. Besides... The only thing that car was good for, was to give the dogs something to use to scale the fence and raid my GF's back yard.

my father has been married 9 times (mother too) and his race car and street toy have gone in my name 3 times in 9 years.

That just has to be some kind of record. Wait a minute... Is this one of those American jokes I don't get?

Speaking of sitting cars. My Miata has been sitting under a car cover in my dads garage for 1 year now  with just a warm up and tour around the block twice. But it is OOOOOKey, because on Saturday, I am moving home to Sweden again. 14h straight north in the BMW (hasn't sold it yet, no... "Have not had the time, baby, really!"). This spring, she is going back on the roads again.

my miata hasn't run in about 4 months, other than to just push it out to clean it up. Once i finish the bodywork, things will start moving right along with it again. It's just simply too ugly to drive at the moment. lol.

a month without my car was too long. that is a damn shame.

UrbanSoot 10-15-2008 04:52 AM

i havent seen my miata in about a month now.. but then again... i put about a 100 miles or so on it since i got it over 6 months ago...

You gays whine like...ummm....

I bought my turbo kit and the shit for my motor in March 2007. My last track day in the green car was october, 2007. The last time I actually drove it was April. Then I took it apart for the new motor, and jumped on and off an airplane. In the last week of September I swapped the motor in and almost got everything finished on the turbo install to that something didn't fit...all I had to do was bolt up the intercooler and I could drive the car, but something didn't fit. The next day I drove to Austin to work for what will be about one year. I hope to get my car running in 2009, but probably won't get to hit the track again in my car until 2010.

 I want my car.

I have a '61 Chevy Stepside - (last year of the wrap around windshield) - 85% restored that's been sitting in my garage for the past 4 years. It has been neglected ever since the Miatas came to live there.

geez man, you should have just paid someone to install/tune everything for you. sounds like working on a car is just not something for your schedule

I hate to say it but I honestly think I might be able to get my car boosted and running the twisties before hustler finishes his........*runs*:)

redrumracer 10-16-2008 12:30 AM

i drive mine everyday now the last time my rx7 ran was summer of 2004.

fmowry 10-16-2008 07:48 AM

Alright naarleven, how much for the M5? My neighbor and I will fix it. And your parents will get more from it for the divorce.

On a side note, my car has been up on my lift for 6 months with this swap. I finally have everything to put it back together so hopefully it will be running this year.
