Default Other forums and their lack of knowledge/followups

I'm so sick and tired of ending up on another forum, usually from google, trying to find info and coming up with threads that are exactly what I'm looking for, but with no end result from the OP.

"My car lurches forward at a cold start, what could be wrong?"

2 dozen replies, all from wannabe mechanics, ranging from "thats normal" to "sounds like a major tranny issue that I would get checked out ASAP".

The threads end with no conclusion and eventually disappear from the first 20 pages of that specific section of the forum. The regulars continue to go on with their lives and discuss more important things like "vent visors" or "how to paint calipers" Then someone like me comes along with the same issue looking for some answers, only to find a thread with the exact problem at hand with a bunch of guesses at the issue with no true solution.

I've had this happen to me COUNTLESS TIMES on numerous forums. Each and everytime I call them out and reply that I'll be sure to post the solution once I find it....because thats what the **** a forum is for!!

****, the threads here end up answered so quickly that they continue into an abyss of gay jokes and personal jabs just to have something to write about. Its nice to have at least one forum I can rely on regularly. No wonder so many newbs come here praising the wealth of knowledge on this board. Look at where their coming from! lol

Yeah seems to be the case, but why?

I just get super frustrated when I come across it. Especially when I find 3 or 4 threads discussing the problem, all with no conclusion.

This time I'm referring to the Ford Taurus forum, so I guess I shouldn't have expected too much. You guys have no idea how lame the general discussion is over there.

It's relative to the subject uniting a group of people.

Depending on the make/car it is inherently going to attract a 'median' type of owner. I'm sorry, but the Taurus forum isn't exactly a haven for either car buffs nor the highly educated because the car does not attract these types of people.

I'm sure an experimental aircraft forum is loaded with intelligent discussions because there are so many filters there ranging from income, education/engineering aptitude, licensing, etc.

I am not gay, but willing to learn.

This place is a thing of beauty, there is nothing else like it. I've forum whored Subarus, VW, Jeeps, and Oldsmobiles...nothing comes close to this forum. We will give any and everyone tons of ****, but in the end no stupid question goes unanswered.

It's certainly an interesting mix of intelligence, frugalness, with a good heap of DIY attitute. In my experience, you don't get all three in a forum. People are idiots and put sand in their engine, people are idiots who dump money into their car, people are smart but dump money letting everyone else work on their car, or the worst, they're smart, rich, but buy a Miata and say it's perfect from the factory.

There's no comparison. I've been trying to find a 1994 Infiniti G20 oil pan, and just trying to figure out what years/models had the same lower pan was a pain in the ***. Literally dozens of thread that proceeded like this:

OP: Hey, I need an oil pan for my 199X G20. Anyone know which pans are compatible?
Guy1: All SR20's are the same.
Guy2: No, I think roller rocker pans are different.
Guy1: I promise you, they aren't.
Guy3: No, I tried, roller rocker pans and 1999+ G20 pans are different.
OP: So, any consensus? I need a pan.
Guy1: All SR20's are the same.
Guy4: I'm looking for a pan for my 1988 Chevrolet G20 conversion van.

/thread.

How hard would it be for a handful of forum members to take photos of their oil pans and settle the matter once and for all?

Yeah I know that tale all too well. You leave the tranny fluid alone and it'll outlast the car. You change the filter and the fluid, next thing you know it ***** out the following week. Thanks though for the raw truth.

I noticed my car was lurching forward a bit when I would start it. I went on the Taurus forum just to see if others were experiencing the same problem, seeing that we have the same make/model I figured it couldn't hurt. It was like entering a Autozone and overhearing a group of 6 employees talking up at the counter. ******* useless!

My last prelude had that symptom. It then started slipping between shifts every now and again. i decided to simple drain and change the fluid, no flush, to try not to disrupt the fluid within the chambers.

Died about a week after. refused to go into gear.

and lol at talking comment. One thing I cant stand is employees talking personal **** at work. I complained at least three times about this at different stores this weekend to my wife. It's annoying. I'd slap my employees if they did that.

Also assembly lines (like chiptole) dont work if the next person in line is not there to serve you. god forbid you have to do more than heat up a tortilla and scoop meat onto is for $8 an hour....you may have to move over 3 feet and scoop some toppings as well.

This place has an unique attitude. People here are serious about contributing. They are also serious about learning and applying what they learn.

The lack of followup is probably related to "first time poster" syndrome. Somebody who is not an enthusiast doesn't actually join the community when they show up to ask a specific question. They either find the answer or not, but they don't have any use for that forum outside of that one question. We see enough of them visiting here, too. They don't really care to become part of the community.

Do you get any gay comments in your Taurus?

My gf and I were at the grocery store last night and had a moment with the girl at the checkout counter. She swiped the items through and gave the silent impression that we better start bagging our **** before she keeps pushing more and more toward the edge. Ok, no problem. I'll bag my own ****. Then after she gets to the last item, she sits there looking straight ahead into space as my gf swipes her card, enters pin, etc. Meanwhile I'm about a breathe away from saying "ohh that's all you do, you don't help bag anything?" but I decided to just stare at her while I bagged up everything.

Sometimes I wonder if its me, you know. I even asked my gf last night after we got in the car if I'm just a dick, or if 95% of people ******* suck. I literally get aggravated with the majority of the public in ever instance from grocery shopping to just driving. I honestly feel like common sense and a little courtesy is too ******* hard for people. I just watch and wait. I don't start ****, but when someone rubs me wrong I usually let them know.

At best buy last week I had a hell of a time not making a scene. We go in to look for some type of monitor switch that she needed for work the next day (otherwise I would have bought it from monoprice). I should also mention I checked online if it was in stock before we drove 30 mins to get there. As we walk through the door 2 highschool/college aged kids come by, one pushing another on a cart. We get to the isle with the cables as another employee walks by bouncing a tennis ball and what do you know, none on the ******* rack. Now I start to hear this "ching, ching, ching" over and over again. I look up and its this fat dyke looking **** swinging his keys around his finger looking around, then eventually looking right at me looking at him. I starred for a minute and waited for him to stop, he didnt. I tried to ignore it and got another kid that was close by to help. He checks the computer and sure enough, none in stock. All the while, this fat **** is STILL swinging his keys around. I couldn't believe that no one else was saying anything, especially a manager. I started to say things out loud about the keys and the noise, but I got a bump in the side cause she doesn't like when I do that. We left and that was that.

If I could go back in time, I would have kept my cool, went and got a manager and pointed at the fat kid and said "look, look at him and what he's doing", loud and clear so everyone, including the fat kid could hear. Thats saved in my memory bank for next time though. lol

People are dumb and do annoying ****. I prefer to just accept it and not let it get to me. It does nothing to try and correct the problem, but I don't think you can fix dumb.

Thread drift, but:

I've found that a lot of my coworkers view their paycheck as an entitlement. Any work that they do, they must be constantly praised and encouraged, even if they aren't doing a particularly good job. They spend more energy and effort trying to avoid work, than actually doing the work itself, and they certainly aren't looking for extra things to do when they aren't busy. The especially lazy workers come to work with excuses and distractions ready, not only to avoid their own work, but to prevent other employees from getting their job done (I suppose in an effort to hide their own lack of productivity).

When these failures are pointed out to them, they complain as if they are junior high students being chastised by an overbearing teacher.
