OTM - will TB cleaner kill a cat?
My DD is a 2003 Jeep Liberty. V-6, auto, 70k miles. I was having some stuttering problems (at speed, on the highway) and had recently filled up. So, I suspected some water in the gas. One bottle didn't seem to help, so I dumped in a second one. It only got worse, actually stalling at 60+ in rush hour traffic. Not a good feeling. Forum/web searches indicated that a dirty intake could cause problems, so I took the airbox off, and sprayed in some TB cleaner. It was filthy. Cleaned the oil-soaked PCV and checked all hoses.
It helped, and seemed to run better, but I was still having problems - loss of power at speed=not fun, and downright dangerous in traffic. Further searches indicated some sensors may be bad, so I changed out both the crank angle sensor and the cam angle sensor. That appeared to cure it, for a while. Now, I'm getting the stumbling again. Just a sort of hiccup, like a random misfire, but no complete stall or loss of power like before. Difference is, I am now getting a "CATALYTIC CONVERTER EFFICIENCY INADEQUATE" code. So, will TB cleaner and or dry gas screw up a cat? WTF is wrong that a cat won't go 70k miles these days? Is is possible to clean out a cat without having to replace the damn thing? |
I seriously thought this was about ur cat (the kind that meow) dying after you were spraying TB cleaner and it got all over the cat.
|
yeah, that would be sad

I thought you killed your kitty with toilet bowl cleaner, happy to be mistaken.

First thing that went through my mind when I read the title was the old "How to poison a cat so it dies" thread at HMT, in which the OP was genuinely seeking information on how best to murder a cat of the LOL variety. |
You guys are sick fuckers, and less than worthless answering the damn questions.
Anyone sprayed any cleaner of any type on my cats, and I'd go postal on them. BTW, Joe. Just saw your sig. Got a good laugh out of that one. |
Doesn't the catalytic converter fall under some Federally mandated 10 year/ 100k mile warranty?

We love our cats here at mt.net. Nobody messes with da kittehs.

Someone wrapped a cat in duct tape the other day and threw him out to die. I would love to catch that fucker!

Update: Cat was clogged, bad. Had to take the Jeep in for inspection, and of course it wouldn't pass. O2 sensors were fine, but the left side primary cat (there are three on the Jeep) was nearly plugged. Best part was that it's covered by Jeep, no charge. They said that normal use of injector cleaner or dry gas would have no effect.
The evap system was messed up, too. Busted hardline, caused by me. I high-centered the Jeep at hunting camp last year. That, in turn, caused the purge solenoid to burn out, as it was kicking on too much. At least that's their explanation. |
