Out with the old in the with new M3

My current daily driver has been a leased 135i. I like the car a lot especially with the JB3 piggyback. It dyno'd at 325whp/350tq on a mustang. My lease is almost up and was looking at various options but due to my 1 year old son I needed 4 doors. I really wanted to like the Cadillac CTS-V-engine was awesome but the styling left me cold. The C63 AMG had a great engine and decent chassis but front seats were so heavily bolstered that my spine didnt touch the seat-very unfortable. Thought about other options like used S65AMG(cheap, twin turbo V12 woo hoo) used M5 but eventually it came down to a new M3
Having had the car a couple of days I really like it. The twin clutch transmission is pretty cool and in drive mode it's almost as tractable as an automatic making it quite wife friendly. Engine sounds great but the low end torque isnt like the 135s. the handling is an order of magnitude better-the competition pack really does make a noticeable difference over the standard suspension. The break in period in the manual says not to go over 5500 rpm for the first 1200 miles, oops broke that rule already.

$$$ But I LOVE it.

What do you do for a living? Seriously. You can pm me if you don't want to post it publicly. I'm honestly dying to know.

Doppelgänger 04-20-2011 10:52 PM

When I come up to Portland.....I want a ride.

miatauser884 04-20-2011 11:05 PM

Have you thought about an E63 AMG. You won't get quite the same handling, but the extra comfort might make up for it. I think it looks very similar to the CTS-v. I wish the front of the CTS-V looked like the regular CTS.

If you do get the M3, please report back with a little writeup. The convertible model is on my list.

I thought it was still in the decision phase until the lease was up. I just thought the dealer let him drive it for a few days to help decide.

No, I bought it alright.
As for my occupation, I am a pimple popper err... dermatologist.

Only so I could get the STI out of the garage and my neighbors get mad if I park the wife's big ass minivan in front of their house.

gearhead_318 04-21-2011 01:28 AM

Nice E94, I love those wheels. Personally the E46 M3 is my favorite contemporary BMW, but the current gen 3 series has has been growing on me, especially since the new 335D came out.

Reverant 04-21-2011 03:27 AM

Love that car, I would get it in white.

What pharm school are you attending?

Braineack 04-21-2011 08:16 AM

A modified lease...who would have thought.

jbresee 04-21-2011 08:21 AM

Awesome car.

My DD is now 11 years old, and I'd love to have one of these. I actually really like the 135, and think the 1M (I know, it's not a real M) looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, my new car money went into replacing the kitchen appliances. I sigh every time I open the fridge.

curly 04-21-2011 08:38 AM

White in Oregon doesn't really work well, especially this year.

Are you private practice or at one of the local hospitals? You definitely should show up at a meet. Were trying to get a beer meeting orgainized for doppel and co.'s visit.

hustler 04-21-2011 08:43 AM

Needz more Volk RE30.

Yeah, he's not the only one who thinks the CTS-V looks like...I don't know, maybe definitive American white trash? The previous gen looked great, the new one looks too bloated.

Definitely a great car for hauling all the beer to a meet. :giggle:

Faeflora 04-21-2011 09:16 AM

335D is one of the few cars I'd seriously consider buying new. new-ish.

spd579 04-21-2011 09:37 AM

kaisersoze I tried to PM you but your box is full. I'll do the axle for what you suggested, paypal is drew standridge at msn dot com. /threadhack

Well I dont know about white trash, but cadillacs style with all the angles makes me feel like I am driving a ghetto stealth fighter. The stance was nice but the ass was all wrong on the CTS-V and rear visibility was total crap, and it was even worse for my wife who is only 5 feet tall. Plus its my bias but cadillacs are for old geezers and drug dealers/professional athletes

I work for Kaiser.
I would be happy to attend a meet, but my miata is now undergoing an engine rebuild at AR to try and rectify my low oil pressure issue which looks like it might have been bearing clearances.

It would be fun. I think you would probably just beat me if you shift perfect. I think the Boss 302 is around 12.3-12.4. 11.7 on drag radials though!!
The M3 is probably more like 12.6 or 7 but C&D got something like 12.4 with the DCT so it should be close.
I really did like the Boss 302 but sadly it only has two doors, I also read about problems with chinese built getrag transmissions in the mustangs, but the motor and the suspension are sweet.

Partner at work picked up a new e90 m3 a few months ago and he loves it. He just went to the track with it too last week. I like me e90 335 too. Good pickup

TurboTim 04-23-2011 11:05 AM

Man that's fantastic. Good luck with it!

AARP 04-24-2011 03:45 PM

Excellent pickup. Those I must ask, did you consider the CTS-V Wagon at all? Might be my own personal preference for wagons, but that thing is sex on wheels.

I like the functionality of wagons no doubt and it pisses me off that we don't get stuff like the M5 estate, etc I don't really like the cadillac style anyway(although I do like the current CTS-V better than the old one), but the wagon has some weirdness at the C-pillar, it just looks tacked on the sedan. However in no way is it worse than the coupe which just looks bizarre at the back to me.

AARP 04-25-2011 07:54 PM

What I would do for an M5 estate...

In other news, I saw an M6 on the highway yesterday.

It's funny, cause this now looks like the hyundai genesis to me.

The 135i has 300+hp?

rapinatore 04-25-2011 10:54 PM

^never going to be in my future until it's old and cheap like my 97 :) very jealous
