Owned.. by pot hole
So I was driving home Sunday night, doing the speed limit, and WHAM, I hit a BAD pot hole. Bad enough to mess up my alignment, but I said eh fuck it, too cold to look for damage so I went inside when I got home and forgot about it until today when I pulled my car into the shop to wash the snow off and I saw that 3 of my wheels are now bent (Stockers). Luckily none of them are leaking, one was bad enough that I am really really surprised that it isn't leaking.
Anyways a co-worker of mine said that he has seen a few of our customers bring their cars in for pot hole damage, needing the repair order so that they could show the city, and that some of them actually got reimbursed by the city. Think its worth sending a letter? I don't even know who to send the letter to.. |
I know in atlanta there is a number you can call to report bad pot holes.
If you don't have that in Wisconsin, then I would call your DOT and they will know who you need to talk to. |
It might be worth a try, i've heard of such things around here as well- but i've never actually met anyone who has been reimbursed.
Either way, that sucks sorry to hear- gl with it. |
i hit a pothole a couple years ago. kinda funny actually. there was someone that hit the same pothole no more than 2 min in front of me and it ripped out the entire front axle. all that happened to me was that it put a huge hole in the tire (rim was fine)... anyway.... i called the jersey DOT and got the paperwork to get reimbursed. that did nothing. i got a letter back from them like 6 months later saying they werent going to pay me for it cause the pothole was not reported. it looked like they would only pay for damage if the pothole was reported and it was on a list to be fixed. i did get a police report for it too just in case but that did no good.
GOOD LUCK. |
Wow.. I guess I need to report the hole before I report the incident!
|
ouch..3 wheels got bent. Can you sue the city for the cost of the wheels?
|
Road 95 North from CMP towards Raliegh costed me 2 5ziegens. It really sucks, doesn't it...
|
Same thing w/ DOT over here in CA. Just reported it about2 months ago. Said the same thing...needed to be reported first. Then, if it wasn't fixed in a set time and it blew out someone else's tire, they would get reimbursed.
|
I hit one in my RX-7 that bent the rim and blew the tire. The hole was full of water (couldn't see it) and the work crew was 20 feet away with a barrier that they hadn't put up yet. I got nothing for it...

so they can come put one of those big ass steel plates over it with the curled up edges  :vash:

I had the same thing happen to me.. only worse. They did road construction and did not put a "bump" sign on this one road. I hit one of those areas where the pavement abruptly goes straight up going about 45 (speed limit) w/ my GSX and destroyed FOUR rims and brand new tires. I wrote an appeal letter to VDOT and they found me at fault. The world is not fair.
|
I remember my father telling me when the Russians immigrated here in the 90's one of the things they use to scheme was reporting blown tires and bent rims to NJ DOT to get reimbursed.
|
The last time I hit one of those steel plates was when I was changing lanes to avoid one. Pulled over, and it appeared out from under the suv in front - BAM! The hit was so hard that it snapped the plastic ball joint on my driver side headlight and sent the assembly bouncing up and down - shattering cracking the light.
|
I hit a pothole so hard it bottomed out my suspension and shattered my gauge hood. It didnt hurt my new rims/tires though so i guess i lucked out.
|
I had a friend who got MODOT to replace a couple wheels on his car.
Honestly the way I see it, we pay taxes when buying fucking gasoline for them to repair and build new roads.. Its their fault they're in such shitty condition, why should I have to pay for damage to my FACTORY wheels/tires because they can't build fucking roads?? |
Here in Detroit we have the pot hole number on speed dial. The city knows about all 4million holes, and they do not care.
