Okay I have a very rare and special car for sale. I bought this car 11 months ago and have put about 4039 miles on it. Only reason I’m selling is that I have too many cars and cannot give them all enough attention. Let me stress that I love this car and I will miss it and I have no problem keeping it if I do not get my asking price. Car runs great nothing wrong with it that I can think of. This car is in better shape now than when I purchased it due to me replacing parts and keeping up on maintenance.
I am the second owner of this car. As stated above I bought this car about 11 months ago from the 1st and original owner who bought it from Mazda New in 89. I stay in contact with him and can ask him question and would be willing to give you his contact info for future reference. I also have all of the documents and paperwork from day 1. The original owner kept a journal for the car and wrote in it every time he even did an oil change. The documentation is crazy overkill on this car. It also comes with Mazda repair manual to show you how to work on every part of this car. I am posting his original sale add as it has all the info you could need. I will do my best to answer any and all questions.
I have done a few things to the car since I have owned it. I replaced the battery with a new Westco AGM Miata Battery and added an On-Board Charger standard 110v plug in. I have done the routine maintenance. Oil is Now 5W30 Redline full synthetic with a Pure one oil filter. Car comes with extra filters. I also replaced passenger side door seal as old one was worn out. Made new rear tail light seals to keep from leaking. New Piaa Super Silicone wiper blades. Adjusted door hinges to fix door sag and also purchased about $350-400 in extra parts to keep as spares as parts are becoming harder to find. Car comes with a Car cover that I use most of the time.

Sold with complete service log and all records and receipts.
CAR IS ON SAN JUAN ISLAND, WASHINGTON STATE; selling because I have too many cars and nowhere to drive - really.
The whole car has numerous mods and is very well sorted, tried and tested on the track and road.
The interior has been redone with blue Sparko Milano Alcantera seats ($1000 ea.), fitted dark blue carpet, & silver anniversary Schroth harnesses.
There are 3 large HKS gauges for EGT, Oil Pressure, and Oil Temperature, and a smaller HKS boost gauge.
The steering wheel is a top-of-the-line Momo, Pilot I believe. OMP aluminum pedals plus left foot brace; rear wiper deleted
There are no back seats and no stereo. The rear was smoothed, sound dampened, and carpeted. Air conditioning removed.
There are no cracks in the dash. It has manual windows, sunroof, and analog display (original).
There is an Autopower street roll bar with brace; The front bumper is just a shell
There is a custom made 1" receiver hitch for your <1000# track trailer.
The exterior is monochrome now, with silver-blue paint and clear coat with lavender sparkles -- really!
I have 3 sets of wheels: original with Dunlap Graspic snows, TSW Hockenheims 15x7 with Kumho Ecsta, and ?? 15x6.5 with Dunlop Star-SPEC
The BPT swap was done by purchasing a JDM front clip, and transplanting engine, transmission, transfer case, and wiring harness
RX7 AFM eliminates rev-limiter and K&N air filter with cold air intake and Ford Probe GT Intercooler, silicone hoses with t-bolt clamps
Fuel computer is add on HKS PC-FCON; I think the injectors are stock; Manual boost control running at 16 psi most of its long life
Magnecore wires and NGK plugs; The battery (Miata type) is in the right rear corner with master switch on fender (outside)
Turbo outlet and waste gate are separated with custom downpipe; the cat is in Michigan; exhaust is HKS Powerflow
Transmission is stock with short shifter mechanism custom built by Bob Bundy; clutch is Centerforce; flywheel is aluminum Firdanza
Brakes are Escort GT front and Miata 1.6 rear, Axxis Ultimate pads, fluid is ATE Super Blue Racing
Lubricating fluids are Royal Purple except engine recently has been Mobile One
Rod Millen F & R strut bars plus Lower Stress Bar; Cusco camber plates on 4 corners.
Adjustable spring perches on Dirtra housings -- 1 with original insert, others with Tokiko Illumina - 2 extra new inserts included
Eibach helper springs on front; springs are not very stiff (225 & 150#) but the current setup is remarkably effective (extras provided)
In 2004 the undercarriage was dissembled with parts and wheel wells stripped, primed, painted, and undercoated (3M) and reassembled with new bolts and stainless steel fastenings for trim pieces. Since it has spent its whole life in Western Washington, it has not had serious rust
All suspension bushings are Mazdaspeed F & R; sway bars are Rod Millen with poly bushings.
Alignment is dialed in very well; handling is very neutral and forgiving, and brakes strong.
The engine is very strong, responsive and reliable. The car is a pure joy to drive.
Includes fitted cover, roof rack and wind deflector.
I decided to stop driving on the track due to problems with the nerves to my feet.
The island is tiny and when I go to the mainland I need a car I can sleep in while on or waiting for the ferry.
I live in Friday Harbor, right in town, and have almost no use for a car, let alone the 6 I have.
It is difficult to give them the exercise and attention they need. I am regretfully selling three.

That bish is right down the road from me. Makes me feel like I over paid for mine (even though I paid less, that appears to be a very nice example)

We're really looking for an FJ80 Land Cruiser, but the main requirement is something that drives all 4 wheels.

This is slightly out of the budget we'd like to spend, but it's so damn cool. I'm just paranoid about the transmission/driveline and being able to find parts for it.

And whether or not i'd be able to resist the urge to run ALLOFIT and blow said driveline to the moon.

As long as you don't get silly on the pavement the bpt tranny will do fine. Plus, dat rear bias is nice(compared to the original bf gtx/usdm pro4wd tranny). You are right though, the urge to run allofit is strong with these cars and ends poorly usually.

I have a bad history of running ALLOFIT on old turbo Mazdas. So this is probably a bad plan.

Yea I did the motor swap, brake upgrades and some other stuff on that car for the original owner. It runs great handles well and stops good. Freekin blast to drive. Much quicker than a stock GTX and probably more reliable even trackable. Bout the only thing that the pictures don’t show well is the paint is huge metal flake metallic looks like a serious bass boat paint job in person, I think it is hideous. It was faded oem red when I did the work on it. Car is less than a mile from me now.

Yeah, the paint job isn't really my cup of tea...

Is this a car you'd trust to be a year round daily driver?

Is the Familia GTX 1.8 drivetrain just as glass as the original 1.6 setup?

I think the drivetrain would be much more reliable than stock. I went to a lot of effort to cleanly integrate BG wiring so it is basically a stock BG running the stock BG ECU.

Having said that every GTX I have ever owned required lots of mantainace, wheel bearings, drive train, brakes, axles, electrical issues, etc. I wouldn't reccomend one to anybody that doesnt know there way around working on cars or is easily frustrated with workign on cars. I've owned several and currently have two of them that need work. One very modded with a blown up built GTR motor and one with a stock junk yard motor that has compression issues that Im thinking full dissassembly restroration with BG drivetrain swap.

I'd love one.. as a project. If you want a reliable AWD dd, just get an n/a subaru ;)
