Default I hate Smart cars

I HATE THEM! A freind and coworker of mine got a Smart a few days ago and all I have heard at work from him and everyone else is about the stupid car. Its ugly, not practical, doesnt do anything any special besides the small size for parking. Im very ill about hearing claims of 100+mph, and its "quick" (when Smart cays top speed of 90, and thats probably with a 30mph tailwind), and that it gets 45-60mpg (its rated at 33/40, not THAT good). Just thought I would vent. Ive been hearing about this stupid ******* urkel car for 3 days now. Ive been calling it an Urkel car, since thats the only comeback I have. Im going to bring him a print out of specs tomarrow though to shut him up. 0-60 in 13 seconds, top speed of 90. Yeah, thats quick... and I can actually carry groceries in my car. EVERYONE stops him to ask about the car. ITS A ******* SWATCH CAR! ***!!!

Maybe Im just pissed I dont drive the smallest car at work anymore. Though mine is quite a bit lower, but longer and wider. I have it in all the right places. Stupid hippy car. He even put his fancy apple sticker on the back, I HATE MACS TOO!

Lucky for you, there are now a couple of good alternatives for the Smart. I founds these pics from my Swedish amature-racer-forum.

Behold! The Porsche 411, The Smarvette and of course the flaggship: The Porsche Smarga:

Any of those I would drive if driven by a Hyabusa powerplant. Smart car = 3 cylinder 1 liter ***** engine.

haha, I have nothing against smart cars, except for the fact that everyone thinks they are god on earth. My university just opened up an Apple store, I guess they think every student on campus has an Apple laptop. The only apples the kids have are iPods, the school is the one with the Apples in the labs that no one knows how the **** to use...

I really kind of like Smart cars - they make my Miata seem like an uber-hetero ride.

Urkel...that is funny. I saw one the other day and I was like, "that thing kinda looks like a redesigned BMW Isetta, that Steve Urkel drove." The Isetta is WAY cooler than that stupid Smart. Hippy save the world POS.

you need to get something more important to worry about. it's the true sign of insecurity that a miata owner is so excited about another car to pick on.

for what it's worth, go to a large city in europe. smart cars aren't the only tiny cars. but they DO get to park in street parking spaces nose-first instead of parallel.

beyond that, I think you miss the point of the SMART. which is pointless to get into here.

Hi NA6C-guy,

you want a Hayabusa engine in a Smart... no problem.

I think this is going to kill a lot of other cars.

I expected this thread to be complaining about cars with computers that dont let you do anything. I kinda like the Smart, although I will never own, or drive, one. The guy should be shot for putting an apple sticker on anything.

On a side note Isetta

My mom's getting a cabriolet in a few months, trading in her Beetle convertible. You guys don't know what you're talking about, it's got all sorts of F1 tech in it; mid-engine rwd, paddle shifters...

I mostly hate the transmission, it's like driving with someone just learning how to drive stick, super laggy and jerky. It is pretty nimble, and might be kinda fun to drive if it were faster and everyone on the road didn't stare at you.

Tons of them around the DC area. Most people that buy them simply do it because they are trendy, not because they can fit in small spaces and live in an urban area. Most of the people's houses I've seen them at have ample parking (think driveway).

Maybe we should rebadge the early geo metro's and sell them for 10k?

They made an ugly little car with todays technology that can't do what my nearly 20 year old CRX can. At least my CRX looks decent. I still get 45+ mpg with over 240K on the clock. I've also never had any mechanical failure other than an alternator and even have the original clutch still. Beat that hippy car!

And I can't see the smart going 240K...ever.

I see that they have a purpose for small or congested areas. I just don't like the smugness of some owners that it is some world beater on gas mileage. They aren't. They are good, but any 1500 lb (or whatever they are) 600 cc vehicle should be.

I've seen smarts even in my redneck town. I just shake my head, because there are other vehicles out there that can perform better with the same gas mileage that are larger and in the same price range. It's all about trends.

The Smart is pointless. It was billed as a cheap city car with excellent gas mileage. $20k+ is not cheap for a 2-seater. "33/40 EPA" is not excellent gas mileage; in fact, for a car that size it's simply abysmal. They are also too long to park nose-in on the street.

They are worse than the Prius; the only people who buy them are rich yuppie ***** who care about having the latest hip car. At least the Prius is a decent car on its own merits (honest-to-god 40-45mpg, huge trunk, huge backseat); who the **** would willingly pay $20+k for a 2-seater with a tiny-*** trunk and Corolla gas mileage if it wasn't SUPER HIP BRO

One of our suppliers uses a Smart for a delivery car. I have to admit it must be tougher than it looks, because the drivers abuse the **** out of it. They are on there second Smart now. The first one got hit by a Freightliner, and the driver of the Smart walked away.

Last weekend I saw a camouflaged Smart parked at the Starbucks. I got a good laugh out of that.

Just a "trendy" car....nothing Smart about it. Uses more resources than most production vehicles just to make the things. How "smart" is this?
