PC, Gaming, TV idiot needs help

I want to upgrade our TV. While I'm at it, I want a Wii. And since all I have to internets on is this laptop of mine, I want to get a PC that will work with the new TV as the monitor.... w/ a wireless keyboard for couch fapping. We have cable internet and netflix and we Hulu. The PC should be Blue Ray compatible. I would like to go wireless as much as I can.

ideal sit...

40" hd 120h LCD under $500
wall mount
wii
tower; fully loaded
surround sound

ENTERTAINZMENT HEAVEN

I have a 19" Element HD thats great so I thought this would work...
tv clicky

would this be enough for surfing and homework and do they come loaded the same as complete pc setup?
tower clicky

the wii is easy, just go to Game Stop... (and get a 360 at the same time)

am I going about this alright or am I off in left field, and I need to visit some other site for better deals on better electronics?

Im a 'tard with this shit...

neogenesis2004 08-23-2010 09:34 PM

Pretty much every pc with a dedicated video card these days will have an hdmi port, and then plenty with onboard video will have it too. Anything that says geforce, or ION will likely have a hdmi port. And if not, any hdtv worth a shit will have a VGA and maybe a DVI port too.

curly 08-23-2010 09:34 PM

How much fucking money do you have?!?

The tower is just that, a tower. On top of that, you'd need a $100 keyboard/mouse combo, and a $100 blue ray dvd player. Then you'd need an HD cable to go from the tower to TV, which I have no idea if it's compatible for use as a computer monitor or not.

So that's:
$500 TV
$300 Tower
$100 K/B&mouse
$100 DVD blue ray
$250 Wii
$200 360
$500? surround sound

We're a little over $2000 without any games, extra controllers, wall mount for the TV, wireless networking devices, cables, etc. That shit would probably be an extra $300 total.

And you're a student?!?

shuiend 08-23-2010 09:42 PM

Make sure to get your TV Mount and all the cables you need from monoprice.com.

Im not the student, she is. I have been watching tv on a 19" with 21 channels for a year and a half so that I could afford to get what I wanted on a small budget. Im hoping to stay around $1400 to $1500 without any games, but with a cheap surround sound. Prolly no 360, but I only Halo so whatever...

I guess i need to go to best buy just to get an idea of how it all needs to go together....

curly 08-23-2010 09:59 PM

Do your shopping online, if you go to Best Buy, it sounds like you're the type of person that would walk out of there with $2000 in crap. If you only play Halo, why are you getting a Wii? Get the new 360 and be done with it. It does Netflix, wireless, stores music, videos, etc. That would eliminate the need for a PC. Have the wife use the laptop for homework, and get the Microsoft keyboard if you need to do typing on the xbox.

HDMI Output
No

No HDMI out for the PC. It's probably better to have someone build one for you anyways.

y8s 08-23-2010 10:17 PM

HDMI is fully backward compatible with DVI. you dont need an HDMI port. Just plug in this two dollar and thirty cent magic adapter:

Thats just the first page of pcs on the site.

No hdmi on pc ...

neogenesis2004 08-23-2010 11:23 PM

blah bby doesnt like to be hotlinked i guess. fuck it....point is 9/10 Pcs have fucking HDMI

FRT_Fun 08-23-2010 11:24 PM

Wow, I may not be the smartest person in the world. But you sir, are completely worthless to society.

I meant no HDMI on THAT PC.

Also if your dumbass bothered to look at the PC the OP posted you will see it does not have DVI or HDMI out, only VGA. Lets recommend a PC that uses VGA when he plans on using it with an HDTV. That is retarded. Also thanks for giving out false advice to everyone that reads this thread regarding geforce and ION having HDMI. Now plz gtfo.

Link me to a new model retail PC that says gefore or ion that does not have HDMI.

FRT_Fun 08-23-2010 11:29 PM

HOLy SHIT DUDE LOOK AT THE FUCKING PC HE POSTED

neogenesis2004 08-23-2010 11:31 PM

I didn't click his link fuckwad, I instead contributed and posted a fuck ton of pcs that do have it. Granted the BBY links don't like to be copy and pasted, but the sku is right at the end of the link. Go die plz

neogenesis2004 08-23-2010 11:37 PM

Also, thanks for proving me wrong with the OP linked budget POS of doom with a graphics chip like 5 generations old.

FRT_Fun 08-23-2010 11:41 PM

lol@you, the OP asked for advice about the shit he posted. Your right let's not even click what he is interested in and go right into posting a shit ton of PCs... why not just link to bestbuy.com.

I instead looked at what he was looking at, mentioned it didn't have HDMI so he might not want it (no DVI either so that adapter is worthless). VGA + HDTV is not worth it.

neogenesis2004 08-23-2010 11:47 PM

I'm using my acer revo nettop on my 42" 1080P tv right now through VGA. Looks fucking great. Infact, it looks just as good as through its HDMI output. I'd use the HDMI output, but the TV doesn't like to center the picture, so I use VGA instead. Zero difference in quality. Not to say thats always the case, but its pretty ignorant to just disqualify it from the get go.

You are right though, I'm not going to click his faggy aids infested links. He admits in his title that he's basically a retard fuctioning at an elementary school level. I bypassed the bullshit and just found some PCs in the first 10 seconds of opening the thread. I'm merely illustrating that there are in fact, a fuck ton of PCs out there with HDMI. All he has to do is look for one. Bestbuy was just a matter of convenience.

You can go hang yourself while masterbating like David Caradine now, Thanks.

Marc D 08-24-2010 12:02 AM

Geez guys. Research much?

First and foremost, CHECK OUT SLICKDEALS.NET before buying ANYTHING. I will guarantee you can save a whole lot more than you think.

I have a 5.1/7.1 surround sound system in my studio. I buy all my wire from monoprice, as well as speaker stands for the satellite speakers I have around the room, because its super cheap there. Cant drill holes in the wall. You can buy a cheap wall mount from monoprice too. Avoid costco, they charge $100 just for a wall mount.

Do your research on a surround sound system. I would avoid a HT-in-a-box combos alltogether because the receiver/system that is included in those arent as versatile as fully featured receivers. I did my research and I purchased a refurbished AVR-247 Harmon and Kardon receiver. Comes with 2 HDMI inputs and one out, and a bunch of other inputs and outputs. It can upscale up to 720P and pass through 1080P signals. Unfortunately, it cant do TrueHD-DTS or TrueHD-Dolby Digital, but its good for what its worth. I bought my speaker system from a company called the speaker company (TSC, but no longer in business), and they make some really good stuff for the price. Cost? $100 bucks. I bought the harmon and Kardon receiver from ebay. Original price was at $250, but using Bing CB (no longer available) at 35% off, I got it for only a measly $180. There you go. 5.1/7.1 surround system for 280 bucks. The sound is phenomenal.

I built a HTPC/Powerful PC for less than 600. Caught some combo deals when Fry's had god deals about a year ago. Bought a AMD Phenom X4 II 965 black edition with a MOBO for 200. Bought a tower off craigslist for 20 bucks. Buought a plorethra of fans and power supply with a 9800GT video card with HDMI outs. Spent only 50 for those. Bought some extra hard drives and a HDTV tuner for, spent only another 150. Then I bought a monitor for only 75, brand new e-machines 20" when staples had a deal going on. Full 1920x1080 resolution. Then just extra stuff like key board and mouse.

If youre in a rush to purchase all of this stuff, by all means head to your B&M shops and buy what that sales man throws at you. Properly research before buying will have better benefits, not to mention a better system overall.

Again, check out slickdeals.net. I'll bet you can find a brand new Wii deal for only $149, or a brand new Xbox360 for cheap too.

FRT_Fun 08-24-2010 12:03 AM

Nice edit.

Okay so you fail at using HDMI so your dumbass uses VGA? Please give away your TV and go back to using a CRT you fagstick. Sure VGA will probably look okay, but for the same price these days you can get HDMI/DVI and use the correct input for an HDTV. So not sure how that is ignorant. The OP asked what can be improved, I told him. Then you misunderstood what I wrote (sure it was fairly vague) and got all gay on me.

Either way I have proven you wrong, so I win, you lose. So please stfu you pathetic lonely emo dick.

magnamx-5 08-24-2010 12:07 AM

hdmi out or bust it is the only way to go my 6860 does awesome with it. Also a note on the tv's 120hz is fail, try to get some more hz even over resolution 720 is not that bad, i would rather miss a few fly's than have a blurry picture in fast motion scenes.

On neo's post you can scale the desktop in the video card controller settings I had to downlaod a special program from nvidia to do it on my gforce 8800 gts but it finally did work for me.

magnamx-5 08-24-2010 12:12 AM

Best Buy has 42" Insignia 720p 600Hz Plasma HDTV for $400. Select in-store [Store Locator] pick up to save on shipping, otherwise it's $70 to ship to home. Thanks Poseidon

Specs:

Resolution: 1024 x 768
Contrast Ratio: 1,000,000:1 Dynamic
Tuners: ATSC / QAM / NTSC
Refresh Rate: 600Hz
Inputs:
2 x HDMI Digital Audio/Video In Rear
2 x Component Video In Rear
1 x Composite Video In Rear
1 x PC Audio Rear

from the slick deals site marc posted this is a good deal more contrast better hz, alil less resolution only 2 hdmis but u only have the 360 and the pc right? You do know you can set up the tv as a seperate monitor so you can still work on your normal screen and stream shit over the hdmi to the TV right this is uber productive.

In the town when I was born... Lived a man who sailed the seas... and he told us of his life... In the land of submarines...

magnamx-5 08-24-2010 12:32 AM

only some of us live in a yellow submarine dude

Rocky64 08-24-2010 06:27 AM

life is more fulfilling with http://slickdeals.net/

I research more now. Me no rush.

at the risk of complicating this to information overload, I guess I need to figure out what the important minimum requirements are... for instance, I need 3 hdmi inputs for the tv and at least 240htz. 40" is not as important, as our tv room is small and we're only 9' from the tv, so maybe a 32 or 37" would be sufficient. ect ect

tv- 3hdmi inputs, lcd, 240htz, ATSC digital tuner (just in case)

computer- power button, mice, 24hr tech line.... im lost on this one

mazpr 08-24-2010 07:42 AM

Just check every day on deal of the day website.

becouse if he is streaming to his TV to watch movies etc not depending on the pc's audio system is a plus.

Braineack 08-24-2010 09:18 AM

but most TVs don't have subwoofers and/or headsets with microphonez.

Just stating the fact that there will be no audio passed over that. Although I believe they do make one that does allow audio to pass, but of course it will be more expensive.

Geez people wtf why compromise? Just get the right shit in the first place. :fawk:

flier129 08-24-2010 12:48 PM

If your guna spend under $400 on a surround sound, don't bother getting one. Spend $100 more and get the bose 2.1 that will blow any cheap 5.1 out of the water or the klipsch 321, which is their version of the 2.1.

Also if you want to make a trip up to Knoxville, I use to work at the hhgregg and I got a few friends that'll give you the hook-up. Like a name brand Samsung 120hz for the Insignia(best buy knock-off) price.

Marc D 08-24-2010 01:59 PM

Bose?? *cough* :noob:

My sound system will blow any shitty bose system out of the water. And I didn't even spend over 300.

Bose is all hype and marketing. It used to be good back in the day. IIRC, they still have one of the most powerful amplifiers ever created. Too bad its antique now.

Marc D 08-24-2010 02:02 PM

double post fail.

the question is: will the computer output sound via another port direclty to his BAD ASS SOUND SYSTEM.

flier129 08-25-2010 06:59 AM

Of course its marketing, but that doesn't deny the fact that its a quality product. You'd be ignorant to say its not.

A good receiver runs $300+ new, so Ill pull out the bullshit card now.

cardriverx 08-25-2010 05:45 PM

Umm.. why the fuck are you buying a 720p TV? And more so, why the fuck are you buying a Wii? my 28" computer monitor cost 350, what makes you think you can get a good 40" TV for under 500?

Also, buy a fucking sound card for $50 for the PC, then run a fiber optic cable to the receiver. I got my Onkyo tx-ds555 on craigslist for $75, an awesome deal. If you go new, expect a good receiver to cost around 500+.

Furthermore, Bose is overpriced bullshit. Ok some of their stuff is nice, but still overpriced. I run a pair of bookshelf B&W speakers with 6 inch woofers and it sounds great. Such speakers can be had for under 100 a pair.

Also, if you run a proper receiver, you can then get a nice pair of headphones. I have a pair of Beyerdyanmic DT770 pro's, cost me 200 but sound amazing, with GREAT bass output. Awesome for when you need to be quiet, but still want to rock out or game.

For the PC, to get the best price, build your own. Its fun, try it. Newegg.com is your friend.

So much god damn fail in the thread.

Imma go kill myself now.
