Are people asking what you want for Christmas?

I hate getting the question "what do you want for Christmas". I never know what to ask for. Thought maybe a thread on Christmas ideas might be interesting. Someone might have an idea that I'd love but hadn't thought of.

Here's my contributions.

Top Gear Magazine! My wife has subscribed me to this for the last two years. It's expensive as hell but the magazine reads the same as the show. Same attitude. Great reviews, lots of editorial. Car reviews are very different than the US mags. Not much for stats it's all about attitude and editorial. Brilliant.

BBC Top Gear Magazine - Magazines - Magazines

Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports magazines. Most guys here know of these and subscribe but there's likely quite a few who don't. Great car mags for guys like us. Tips, tricks, reviews and info that DIY Miata people and enthusiasts can actually use. Affordable subscription compared to Top Gear and something I look forward to receiving every month. (almost - I think they publish 10-11 issues a year)

I got what I wanted: complimentary round-trip airfare for me and the wife and kid to Jacksonville. Between that and the iPhone (and promotion..) I got for my birthday I'm set. My family isn't really doing a gift exchange this year.

Yeah but you live there. We in the US don't get enough of that pithy brit humor.

Ahhh to be young and in lust!

My family members and I all have a mutual non-gift pact - I figure the best gift I can give is saving you the time and money trying to find something for me.

My wife and I are working on giving ourselves a house, so that covers a lot of gifts for a lot of occasions.

"Plenty"? Is that something like enough?:naughty:

No Space-A?

I don't really want anything. I may ask for something like Band of Brothers Blu-Ray. Maybe some other Blu-Ray series. Nothing big. I don't like buying or receiving gifts very much. I always tell my friends I'm not buying you shit so don't buy me anything. :giggle: Bah Humbug...

FRT_Fun 11-14-2009 09:50 PM

Eehhh I usually don't ask for anything. Me and my siblings get my mother something and that is about it.

It is a monthly publication i just ran next months issue last friday. 63k books a month ftw. I read it for free and make sure there are no scratches hickeys assholes or bad register fwiw, as well as handle the paper for it.

I'm kinda the same way...I mean if I want something I'm just going to buy it myself...there's not one thing someone could get me that I would want or need...

If you get B or B, send me your disc. I'll have Don Malarkey sign it for you. He's a close family friend.

what about a book?

Turbo_4 11-16-2009 11:54 PM

Thankfully I don't have people bugging me for xmas already. I hate that the stores are already advertising in full Christmas mode. I started my xmas shopping for family though, this year its goodwill!

Joe Perez 11-17-2009 01:10 PM

I want this: Amazon.com: Haynes Apollo 11 Owners' Workshop Manual: 1969 (including Saturn V, CM-107, SM-107, LM-5) (9781844256839): Christopher Riley, Philip Dolling: Books

Though I'm very tempted to buy BoB Book (even though I've already read it and seen the miniseries) just to take cueball up on his offer. Having a copy autographed by T/Sgt. Malarkey would be just too cool. (My copy of Blind Man's Bluff is autographed by Cdr. Mack, who lived very nearby me until his death last year).

coastertrav 11-17-2009 04:08 PM

Racecar Engineering magazine is excellent, and I'm also asking for the Bosch Automotive handbook.

I really want the new Motorola Droid, as I have had the same non smart phone for 3 years now, and maybe a gopro camera.

+clothes

Qckslvr 11-17-2009 05:09 PM

My list of wants is normally way to expensive for any one to purchase. And like most, if I want something I just buy it. This year I got the new T-mo My Touch droid phone, and turbo on the Miata.

Doesn't help any that my B-day is the 23rd of Dec, my mom celebrates the eve of the 24th(old farm habit), and wife's parents the 25th. Gets spendy real fast.

cardriverx 11-18-2009 01:30 AM

wait, top gear mag is like $150 for a year. God damn.

NA6C-Guy 11-18-2009 01:32 AM

The concept of magazines today escapes me. I can get the same info online for free and not have magazines stacked up somewhere in my house taking up room. Did I mention free? I like Top Gear and all, but no way in hell I would ever pay $150 for any magazine.

evank 11-18-2009 02:09 AM

Well, for the first time since I was a child (I'm 35 now), I took a catalog, dog-eared a certain page, and left it on my dad's workbench!

Difference is, as a child it was usually a Toys-R-Us catalog, or perhaps the latest issue of "R/C Car Action Buyer's Guide" ..... this year it's a Sears tool catalog. :) Hoping that "Chanukah Harry" brings me flex-head gear wrenches.

However my real desire this year is (mush alert) for my mother to recover from cancer.
