There is one on my local CL for $3500 (120K miles - some cosmetic issues). My wife is interested but I don't know a damn thing about them other than it is a 1.8L Turbo.

My mom had an '03 1.8t convertible. It kept breaking its own windows via the mechanism that drops the window down a 1/4" for opening/closing the doors. She ended up getting a free '06 with the 2.5 I5 motor from VW because of lemon laws. The 1.8T car was nice while she had it though, and it's basically the same chassis as my GTI (which has 170k on it and has needed a radiator and brakes in the 3 years I've had it.)

They're nice cars, but it's the random electrical issues and the fact that everything is 10x harder to work on than a Miata.

Friend of mine's mother's boyfriend has one, and from what I hear it's rather nippy and I haven't heard any horror stories. Still, if it's the Audi 1.8t, I'd be warey.

Neogenesis2004 mom had a yellow bug. I am not sure if it was boosted or not, but I know the coil packs would go out and then cause the HG to blow. I know it was expensive as hell to fix.

I'd avoid the 1.8T, I've owned 2 of them...

Not that bad as long as they have maintenance records.

An evolution orange MSM. If you can find one.

Any VW.Audi 1.8T needs to DIAF. They are terrible motors, sludge prone, coilpacks are a know issue that they never fixed (die constantly and cost $300 to replace), bad coilpacks eventually cause HG failure from misfires that don't trigger a check engine light, water pump impeller is made of plastic and will explode, water inlet and outlet attachments on motor are also made of plastic and are known to just give up the ghost while driving when well aged. I could go on and on, these are TERRIBLE motors as far as reliability.

I gave my mom $2700 to fix her beetle under the agreement that she would immediately sell it once fixed. Luckily she had a yellow turbo model, bitches LOVE the yellow ones, so we were able to sell it quickly at full dealer book value. The I convinced her to buy a Ford Ranger Splash with the 2.3L 4cyl. That little truck is a tank and still gets great MPG.

Cliff Notes: STAY FAR AWAY!!

I'm just playing with you. What we have is the Lava (the nice looking "orange"). Not really sure why they called that gold car an orange.
