Piston Count - 60 (soon to drop and never get that high again)

A generous friend just sold me an 05 F150 for dirt cheap. I thought well I'll buy it fix the injectors and sell our other truck to do house reno's. Then I realized I've got to donate our old broken Venture minivan and get it off the property. I started to do a piston count and realized its getting out of hand. Most of my numbers are good vehicles bought way undervalue and made valuable with some TLC and elbow grease. I make an average wage just that I'm cheap and like deals and like off road vehicles too. I only buy used good machines and when I'm in the market I research and watch the adds. Most good deals are gone in under an hour. A few times Ive been able to get crazy prices.
This list includes weed whackers, lawn mowers and Nitro R/C. Oh yah and my Miata sitting in the garage waiting to be fixed............

Whats really cool is that 8 pistons are 2 strokes - ha ! No engine oil changes for those ones. 4 only have 2 wheels. 11 pistons need work and don't run.

Whats your Piston Count ?

(ps putting your hand inside a tube and pumping it does not count - too much leakdown)

thirdgen 07-26-2012 01:06 PM

Does this have to be all engines on property? Or just vehicles? What about spare motors??

Landrew 07-26-2012 01:11 PM

I think if it's not commercial and you own it that should count.
Anyone with a turbine gets a 12 cylinder equiv.

thirdgen 07-26-2012 01:14 PM

V8 truck, 3 running 4 cylinder vehicles, 1 non running 4 cylinder vehicle. 2 spare 4 cylinder engines, 2 cylinder horizontally opposed Steiner, spare 2 cylinder engine for it...2 cylinder motorcycle, chain saw, weedwacker, pushmower, riding mower, hedge trimmer.

thirdgen 07-26-2012 01:15 PM

Yes...global warming starts directly above my house.

Scrappy Jack 07-26-2012 01:19 PM

8 + 4 + 4 = 16

I sold all my lawn equipment a couple of years ago. I'm a job creator (i.e. I pay for local servicemen to do our yard work).

rharris19 07-26-2012 01:31 PM

2 V8 Diesels,1 I6 Diesel, 1 Natural gas I4, 7 Miata motors (some in cars), 1275 I4, 9 single cylinder machines, Toyota I4. 71 and I have no plans to downsize.

Ben 07-26-2012 01:33 PM

I stopped at 82. I can recall 8 single cylinder 2-smokes, but I feel like I'm forgetting a few of the small motors

16 (2 V8's) have been sitting and currently (probably) do not run. Both could be made to run with minimal effort.

8 (2 L4's) are extra BP's.

2 are Nitro RC.

<edit> Added 4. Forgot a motorcycle.

Ben 07-26-2012 01:37 PM

I don't currently own any rotary engines, but how should those be counted? 1 rotor = 2 pistons?

UrbanSoot 07-26-2012 01:37 PM

6 cyl BMW 328Ci + 4 cyl Miata. Only 10 here :( At some point in time I've had 2 Miatas (both were turbo), Integra, and 350Z (12 + 12 + 6 cyl)

chpmnsws6 07-26-2012 01:48 PM

52 pistons

3 tractors
3 trucks/SUV's
2 cars
3 mowers
4 nitro r/c cars

Only V8 is the Miata

rharris19 07-26-2012 01:49 PM

What all are we counting here through? Pistons designed for things that move or any pistons? IE generators and power washers

redturbomiata 07-26-2012 01:54 PM

3x 8cyl, 2x 6cyl, 1- 4cyl, 2 mowers, weed whacker,
43 soon to buy another motor for the miata and another car so... 51-53 in a few months.

curly 07-26-2012 02:25 PM

15 internal combustion pistons.

miata2fast 07-26-2012 04:55 PM

I am not counting any engines on my scrap pile.

Oops, forgot the '54 Willys Jeep. 4 more.

Let's not forget that Hustler had over 9000 posts without a Turbo on his car. So you are not failing that hard.

I currently have 20pistons in motors for vehicles that should run. 8 in the pickup truck, 8 for the 2 Miatas, and 4 for the Mazda 2.

:giggle: You guessed my correctly I think. Though I don't really consider myself a redneck, but we do have cars all over the place here. It's a shared property and I live with family, so if I were alone I'd try to keep my number under 30.

inferno94 07-28-2012 07:28 AM

miata-4, protege-4, truck-6, outboard-4, seadoo-2, lawn equip-3, rc plane-1 (2.8cc engine), in a box-4, air compressors-6.

Everything works reliably (plane hasn't been used in years but motor is functional) and looks presentable (snowblower and weed eater excluded because fugly).

A sub total of 28 ic pistons or 34 total, wife thinks it's getting ridiculous.
