Just picked up this 1990:

to go a different route than the 1965:

Unfortunately the motor really did need a rebuild (rather toss and start new):

closer:

and half of the piston...

the other half is wedged in the transmission somewhere...

Kinda funny, the miata is the biggest car I own right now. The heaviest too. Going to drop the b18c5r honda motor in the 1990 (blue one) and build a 1310 7 port for the 1965 (green one)... green one is at 1350 lbs give or take and the blue one is at 1575.

I can't stand the dubs on the blue one (12 inch wheels) I am going to go with 10's like on the green one (4pots under there though!)

How much you want for the 12's?

Those are some badass little rides, especially that 1990, my inner brit yearns for one of those. Talk about lightweight.

Personally I'd take mine in K20 flavor. My friend's dad has an old 70's(?) mini in his driveway with a bad engine, what an awesome project that would make!

Fireindc 10-17-2008 03:05 AM

While the K series would be better, id rather go B series. Mainly its cheaper, and still very quick.

oconnor 10-17-2008 10:50 AM

KPlafin,

I have a set of MWS 12's and a set of minilite's in 12's both are in excellent condition. Tires on the minilites are worn due to PO never getting an alignment. Which ones would you be after...I am going 10's for sure...Just not sure if MB's or regular minilites...

K20 is an amazing motor. Amazing.

Now for numbers, with very little tuning the car is making over 200whp with a very quiet exhaust and tied with a JDM 6 speed transmission accelerates like a rocket. The car feels very tight and has great feel due the extra bracing and a custom alignment.

For the gas mileage folks, so far with very little tuning the car has averaged 48mpg with about 60% highway and the rest stop and go. This includes the 7 runs on the dyno. I’m confidant it will break 55+mpg once tuned. With the ability of the Hondata K-Pro we have had the car at 19-1 AF ratio with 40 degree of advance with no issues.

The car I wanted to do before the miata. Wish K20's werent so fucking expensive.

I looove the old ones, so tiny. Gf would hate it.

Put those pistons for sale. They're good to go.

10's FTW... people stop me in the street asking what size are those?? Im doing a rear subframe / rear brake rebuild shortly... keep her nice snuggled in the garage for being 45 years old. But Still the MOST FUN TO DRIVE.

I had to put a headgasket on my car one time, in a serv station parkinglot. Either that or no go home.

Ive seen plenty of pistons look like that on the turbomini forums. Goodluck with the rebuild.

If you can find a way to ship that broken old junker to me I'll take it off your hands. :p

oconnor 10-17-2008 05:44 PM

jedduh01, what width are those? I have 10x6 revo's on my 65. I want to run 10's with no flares on my 90. From what I have seen 10x5's minilites with "s" brakes and aluminum superfins out back will fit with no flares...then again..can't be certain... I may go KADS upfront on this one as well. But the still out just like s brakes.

elesjuan 10-17-2008 05:49 PM

Oh I envy you.. I want a Cooper really bad.

jedduh01 10-17-2008 11:39 PM

Ill do a measure for you tomorrow. I want to say im at 6 also. I ran the normal size Yoko A008's forever. But for my cooper disks the front track is for sure wider than the rear. Ive got S brakes Up front, Stock drums on the rear with a Small .25 spacer on the rear too.. Its a little narrow in the rear if you want to be square, but for the ride, (little oversteery) but I think its fine. Ill have a wheel off in a day or 2.

Arkmage 10-18-2008 12:11 AM

me wants one :( how much do those suckers cost these days anyways?

Fireindc 10-18-2008 12:24 AM

I want a k20 elise..

Which direction are you going with the new mini?

oconnor 10-18-2008 12:29 AM

fireindc...what do you mean...The 1990 will get the b18c5 with 200 or so Hp. New final drive in the tranny to make the first two gears usable....kind of... The classic will get another rebuild this time with a 1310 and a 7 port head. hoping to get 105 hp or around there abouts...
