Porsche Cayman S or BMW Z4M coupe (I am a 40 year old woman)
Been looking to add another vehicle. Looking for something fun and a little different. Doesnt need mega power and I would prefer something that runs most/all of the time. I am not in need of another project car. No more convertibles in the PNW
Never owned a Porsche, honestly I'd like a 993 just because it is air cooled or GT3 but thats either a 20 yr old car or more $$ than I care to spend right now Like the idea of a 996 turbo but still a little too expensive So Cayman seems like it should handle well but ride well enough for more than weekend blasts. Has enough power to fun. The Z4M seems a bit more raw, has been a while since I have driven one. I love the S54 engine(had a previous M3) an it is the only Bangle design that I think kind of works. For some reason the prices on the coupe are like 10K over the roadster so that kind of sucks. Which would you pick. or of course you can go the regular route and pick something completely different. |
BMW is ugly, heavy, and ugly. However, the Porsche is a Porsche. Why is this difficult?
EDIT: Or just buy a $3,000 miata, and turbo it. |
Cayman is more reliable.
|
Someone owns a white cayman S at my work.. I cannot stop drooling over it. A z4m probably wouldn't get a second look
|
This is okay. I can see the appeal.

Caymen S vs Z4 M? Cayman S every time.
If you really want to go in a completely different direction you might want to look into a muscle car. I always kinda discounted them until my brother got a '73 Nova. He got his for $10K with fresh paint, a GM performance 350 crate motor (I think), nice wheels and tires, and a very nice interior. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...upe-nova1-jpeg What about a early NSX, or maybe a R33 Skyline? |
Joke thread? If you cross-shop a Z4M and a Cayman, and you buy the BMW, you should probably just spend the money on a hetero life coach instead.
|
1973 is when the Nova started to get ugly.
The Z4 does nothing for me, but the first time I saw a Cayman S, it was like the first time I saw boobs. |
Cayman S on slicks is FTD at our local CT autox every time. Its pure sex. So is the guys daughter.
Moral of the story... Buy a Cayman S... Win... And have a hot daughter. |
Cayman- it's the real thing IMO.
|
So far not one single vote for the BMW? You won't get a vote from me either. Cayman all the way.
|
As much as I hate how the cayman looks and love how the bmw looks, the z4 is a big heavy pile and you'll hate it if you like miatas. I would go cayman. But honestly if I wanted a car that was fun as shit to drive and wasnt racing it, I'd shoot for then last of the air cooled 911s. Holy fuck those things are fun to drive, let off the gas, over steer. get on the gas, over steer. hit the brakes, over steer. But its very controllable. And the one that I drove, actually has the brake pedal spaced to a point where you can left foot brake without crushing your balls, the first time you get in it and go to brake in anger you will get a foot full of fire wall between the brake and the gas where you thought the brake pedal should be.
|
993. Didnt seem like you completely ruled it out so that would be my choice.

Another Cayman vote, of the two.
Another 993 vote, overall. Why not a..... um.... well..... uh....... *you already have a built engine, 3071 MSM. You already have an M3. You already have a built WRX* Why could you possibly need another car? |
Because......why not

EDIT: Or just buy a $3,000 miata, and turbo it. Oh I still have my miata, just don't need another convertible I was wondering if the lack of an LSD in the Cayman would be an issue, detailed reading seems to indicate that some feel that it isnt others would prefer one. Time to go and drive a few I guess. 964 Singer-beautiful, but for around what 300K? it better be. |
I think they start in the 300's lol
And range all the way into the upper 500's |
I was cross shopping the same two vehicles, I happen to like the z4 m coupe looks but the fact that the coupe production numbers were so low has driven the cost up.
I decided to go with the caymen s, high build quality and materials used. Fun to drive as well. Fortunately/unfortunately a couple days before I went to sign papers I wa browsing Craigslist and came across a 1975 911 s that had a wide body kit install, 930 turbo brakes and the twin plug 993/964 3.6 already installed. Paid 13k cash and the only real work I have had to do is replace the original brake master cylinder and general maintenanc( a lot of that with air-cooled Porsches). I vote caymen! (or hopped-up air-cooled Porsche) |

OP, a Porsche? You're so NW Portland. I'm trying to think of something similar for the same kind of money and I can't. My friend just bought an '09 Corvette. Drove it once and I want one. They seem to be hit or miss for people. Worth a try, it was comfy and easy to drive. Easy to get in trouble too. |
Yeah right, I've actually purposely been avoiding driving it lol (long story, not for the internet).
|
Cayman would be my choice.

Have I already asked you to post pictures of that car? Only decent shot I have currently, if it were a coupe I would have Paid more. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1358873038 Y |
EEwwwwwwwwwww Targa car. I can't stand those things lol.

Haha... nice ninja edit Doppelganger.

I waste money on them!!! It's got more in suspension, brakes and wheels than a lot of people have in their entire miata. Same goes for the engine alone. True the body kit is fugly and Targas are hideous, but the fuker performs. If the op wants something raw get something with the air cooled 3.2 or 3.6 in it. Otherwise caymen. |

BAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Ian- Yeah, it's just my personal preference when it comes to 911s. I'm sure the performance is really no different...besides, once you're sitting in it and driving the shit out of it, it's not like you're the one looking at it from the outside. I just can't get over the looks...much like the 986 Boxsters with the 996 front end. |

I bought it as a future parts car for my 914 gt project( hence my bias towards the cayman), I've been enjoying as is for now. The kind of people who typically like the looks drive trans ams and vw kit cars. |
Friend has a z4m. Cool car and he paid nothing for it when times were tough. I would pick the Cayman S over it any day of the week.

I'm with you on the looks. Not only is it not very attractive the lights function horribly. It's part USA beach boys body kit and german folgers rear. So it's not even a complete kit.

After some research on prices I will look for a cayman S as prices dont seem too bad(although why anyone would get a car like that with an automatic is beyond me, damn old people). The corvette is intriguing as prices on C6 Z06s have come down enough that it might be a reasonable option although my wife would hate it. Still hard to argue with 505hp even if the seats suck. |

Definitely check out the C6. Go for a test drive's and just choose which one you really want. Personally, if I had the option, I'd be opting for the C6 as its my favorite corvette to date. Aftermarket options are plenty and they can really get up there in their HP numbers.
The Cayman S would most likely be the porsche I would buy if I were looking for one. I would stay away from the Z4M imo. |
Yeah, his has 436hp, and I'm supposed to have around 180 in my miata currently. His felt like 600 to me. I've never had a tingling sensation in my groin like that before.
